whats the Quietest catback

Ok I am looking for a relatively quiet catback system for my car. for a while I was considering the hks hiper but its very expensive also i was thinking of the greddy sp. My friend has the greddy on his teg and its nice and quiet. Also is the thermal R & D exhaust pretty quiet. I just really want an exhaust thats nice and quiet when you are cruising but when you crack into it it lets you know its there. thanks guys.

the sp or the RSR will be the quietest. But the sp isn’t made anymore, and the RSR isn’t available here in the states anymore.

other than that the greddy mx is probably the quietest.

I heard you can get the SP for the 90-91 years to fit on the 92-93 by just adding 3" to the b-pipe. inlinefour.com has the 90-91 SP for sale…also the MX system too.

I have RS*R and love it (just be ready to pay someone a lot for a used one.) it’s silent at idle, but deep and throaty when you let’r rip.

Thermal

Has anyone ever heard a quiet thermal exhaust

yeeeeah… right

exhaust db’s

My friends and I back in Hawaii have had about 6 2nd Gens and we’ve had an assortment of exhausts over the years. Hell, does anyone remember the R.S. Akimoto exhaust? That was the first exhaust I saw on a 2nd Gen.
If I were to rate all the exhausts from 1=stock 10=loud.
R.S. Akimoto 5
DC Sports 5
Greddy Sport 5
HKS Sport 6
HKS Hiper 7
Thermal 2.25" 8-9
Brullen 7-8
Tanabe ?
Bosal 6 F**k no
Pacesetter F*&#no
RSR ?
UNIVERSAL MUFFS
Hayame welded to stock pipe 9-10
Ractive w/ catback no mandrel 10-11! sounds like completeASS
Straight header 11
No Header oh my god–shut it off!! hehe

I have the Hiper and love it. It has a decent rumble at low RPM’s and screams at high RPM’s. CON- less bends mean not so good fitment. Scrapes most speedbumps.
I would buy the Greddy Sport for a little more quieter at low RPM’s, It still screams at high RPM’s Friend has one on 92GS and I used to have one on my 90Civic Hatch w/ 90 LS motor. Great fit too.

Hope I helped.:ok:

how about those loud custom exhausts with the dynomax mufflers or whatever? Will they be reasonable with a resonator included?

I used to have a 2" stromung catback. It didn’t start getting louder than stock til around 3-3500rpms

d

skunk 2 made by RSR i heard

tunable exhaust

how about the apex n1 exhaust with and without the baffle. Do you think it s loud with the baffle in. Im sure its pretty loud with the baffle out. let me know.

If you’re looking for a quiet catback, i wouldnt recommend the HKS hiper…It is extremely loud…i have one and from past experiences, it is louder than straight pipes

Hey man I have asked the same question to many experts. The most popular answer is DC sports it gives a nice low tone with no rasp “depends if you still have your cat”. and it also give the greatest power increase. thats a proovin fact I have seen dyno graphs of that. but if you want quit but you really want people to know your there when you gun it. Get a stock exhaust system with a dump out valve.

apexi n1, tanabe racing medallion, or any other straight through/canister type is gonna be loud, even with the silencer in. archivethis

i need to replace my canister with a quiet stock looking one. pigs are getting annoyed =/

The Thermal exhaust is NOT loud, unless you have the Turbo system … the Classic system is actually pretty quiet, similar to the DC system. It’s by far the best system out there, quality, price, warranty, and sound-wise … IMO. Just ask other members who have it.

I dont think the Apexi N-1 catback is even made for G2’s. I have a Greddy MX with a dc sport header and it is pretty loud…

my DC Sport is VERY quiet from the inside almost silent, especially at idle, and fairly quiet from the outside. Produces a nice deep roar at WOT though. I actually have a sound clip… i’ll post if interest persues.
