I have a 90’ GS w/o AC and the push button climate controls have started not working right lately. First of all, the heat/cool knob has gotten kinda hard to turn from cool to heat and back. But the main thing that is pissing me off if which ever button I push the air is coming out of a different duct than its suppose too. Like to use my defroster vents I have to hit the button that is suppose to make the air come out of the top and bottom vents together. Its not lining up with the proper duct. I can also hear whatever it is that is motorized inside the dash struggling to move. Whats the problem here??
I don’t know if it’s the same problem but, I had trouble making the air come out of certain vents. I figured if I push the button in and kind of wiggle it, the motor will switch to the right vent.
There was obviously poor contact with the switch. I don’t know if that’s what you have.
I think that might be part of it. When I push the button in all the way the light will come on but when I take my finger off of it the light will go off. I can hear the motor and it sounds like its having a hard time moving.
Try takeing you climate controls apart and re sodering the conections. I just did this to mine and now it works great.
I’ll give that a try. I just got this car though and am very unfamiliar with it so could you give me some directions on how to get it out of there and what exactly needs to be soldered. It would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
In the teg tips, interior section, there is an article on fixing climate control lights. The unit is much more of a pain to remove than the tip makes it out to be - you pretty much have to wiggle everything around inside the dash until you can remove all the screws and pull the parts out.
OMFG no kidding! Once it’s out it’s only a 10 minute soldering job though.
I had to resolder EVERY joint on every switch - all of them were broken/cracked. Some of the ones for the LEDs were cracked too.
I don’t know if all mine needed it, but I redid them all. I never plan on removing that thing again.
Have to revive this thread, I am having the same issue. Took it out today, and all my joints are fine. The thing looks really nice actually, and the buttons seem to work fine when its out of the car lol. Any suggestions to what this might be? Since it’s clearly not the joints. Im stumped, and it can be very irritating when you are trying to deforst in the morning and you have to practically hold the button.lol.
Probably a problem with the mode control motor or possibly mode linkage has come apart.
Stick your head up under the dash on the drivers side and you willbe able to see the mode control motor and the linkage, press the buttons one by one, [or have someone do it for you] and see if the mode control motor moves the linkage.
The linkage is a series of levers and cams on the side of the heater box that move the “doors” inside the heater box. 94
