wheels 15s or16s and tires?

Does anyone feel a diffference between 15s and 16s and if so whats the difference?

What tires are the best street/track tires in your opionion and why?

That question is too hard to answer. There are WAY too many different possible setups to compare - the exact tire you get will be a bigger factor in how the car “feels” than the actual size. For example, based purely on tire size, a 195-55-15 should be a softer ride than a 195-50-15. However, if you compare a performance 195-55 vs an all season 195-50 then the 195-55 will ride more harsh…etc there are thousands of different comparisons you can make here when you factor the available tires in sizes for both 15’s and 16’s.

15’s are arguably the best setup for track because there is an abundant supply of affordable, properly sized tires available. The selection of 16" tires is much smaller. The current top DOT track worthy tires are:
Bridgestone RE11 & RE11A
Hankook RS-3
Dunlop Direzza ZII
BFG Rival
Kumho XS
Toyo R1R

At least 4 of those are very new to market so there’s not much info about which is going to be the best of the best. Before some of those new arrivals I would have said RE11 or RS3 are the best. But now I’m thinking it could be the RE11A, Rival, ZII, or possibly still the RS-3. Just need to wait awhile until we get some more reviews.

What he said^^

For further, Ive got 3 or 4 autox events on the new Rivals (205/50/15) and im blown away by them. I had a few other people ride with me and all complimented on how insane the lateral grip is. Havent been able to use them in wet though. BFG preached and preached about the new technology in the sidewall… its all true too. They are razor sharp. Cant wait to try my new 225 Rivals that are in the mail.

As for the others. I think the RS-3 and R1R are the next in line. I also ran the Azenis RT615K last year. They wear like iron and grip decently but I would rather buy something else. I think the RS-3 performs best with a wider wheel due to the soft sidewall and have seen alot of people see the best results with a 225 RS-3 on a 8"-9" rim. And of course the magical R1R. Theres a national driver who run with me who live by the R1R and its magical compound (195 series only) I almost went with them this year but decided on the Rival instead. One of the other miata drivers drove the Rival and R1R back to back and said the Rival is much more precise as the R1R feels “mushy” in quick transitions but the R1R has a little more grip, at the expense of wear.

Thats my input anyway

i prefer the nt01 to all of those…they are amazing tires and im using 205/50/15

And I like hoosiers and v710s over any tire, but that’s not the point. If your looking for a streetable tire, the NT01 is only 100 tread wear. Street tire classes (for autox) are 140 or higher. Depends on what you want I guess.

i drive mine on the street every day…they seem to be hanging in there…i was just saying i like it as a street/track tire

Im surprised they are lasting. No way I could DD on 100tw tires. I would love to give the NT01 or R888 a go on the track though! I hear great things about the R888. If only they were 140tw!

thanks for the replys! i completely forgot i even made this but ill deffinately have to look more into tires you guys know your shit lol

If your going to the road course, skip the r1r. otherwise it is great for autocross and in the wet. stick with 15’s… lighter, cheaper, and like colin said there is a great selection of tires in the 205/50-15 size and some in the 225/45-15 size. Keep in mind these sizes will shorten your gearing relative to stock.
