Where do you mount your harness' ?

Can you mount on the C Pilar bar? I would ~like~ to keep a rear seat in just for look and sound-- but I would remove it if mounting my harness’ there is the safest way… How about a B Pilar… Could I mount there? I will probably just be going with the regular Sparco harness’ (money decision)…

What about stock seat belts… I was thinking of just keeping the metal part plugged into the door/slider section to keep the seat belt light off… Or is it the lower one that controls it?

Thanks for insight… Sorry too for the newbie question but I couldnt find a decent answer searching…

well, i’ll let ya know since i just installed a MOMO 4pt harness.

on the drivers side, slide the seat all the way back, look between the 2 front seat bracket bolts, between those, there will be a hole, match up both metal pieces, and use a bolt to hole em down (luckily i had a perfect sized one laying around.

as for the seatbelt light, take the gauge cluster out, and remove the bulb. also you might as well remove the seatbelt control unit, and the 2 boxes that ravvel (sp?) up the seatbelts. and remove the automatic tracks as well.

well, thats what i did. all i have in there now is the momo 4pt on the drivers side, and no seatbelts on pass side.

I’m actually more worried about the REAR mounting points… I read a bunch in the search but couldnt get a very definitive answer… I know people will tell me no race harness’ in a street car but I’m not looking for that answer…

Can I mount the harness’ to the rear seat belt mounting points and still have the rear seat in??

Is there such thing as a harness bar without the cage? (proably not- I’m stupid sometimes)…

I just told you exactly how to mount it. I don’t even have race seats, i have leather seats. I am referring to the shoulder strap mounts.

I don’t know why you’d want to mount them to the rear seatbelt points though, would’nt be aligned properly, however, yes you could mount them to a roll bar or something if you have it.

like i said, it IS possibly to have 4pt harnesses in a street car.
you mount the 2 shoulder strap mounts on the 1 hole between the two front bracket mounts, you have to cross the straps on the back of the seat, then run them under the seat to the front. also take off the headrest portion of the seat, and have the straps on the inside of the metal bars that hold the headrest on.

I’ll take some pics so you’ll understand better.

To answer your question yes you can keep the rear seats when using harnesses. Mount them where the stock rear seatbelts are. You pretty much have to take the rear seats out to do it though.

And please don’t do what streetracer0097 here did. That is not a safe way AT ALL to mount your harnesses. The truth is the shoulder straps should be as horizontal as possible going behind the seat. In other words they should be parallel to the ground which is why a lot of people mount them to a c-pillar bar or a roll cage. I have neither so that’s why I used the rear seat belt location. Having the straps go straight down is very dangerous in the event of an accident. Mounting them to the rear seatbelt location puts them at about a 45deg angle which isn’t ideal but it’s good enough. Also use the bolts that hold down the stock seat belts. Not just any bolt you find that happens to thread into the hole. I looked this info up when I put in my harnesses and I don’t remember all the safety precautions I found but look it up yourself.
Also, I’m not sure if you know this or not but it is also very dangerous to have harnesses in a car that does not have a roll cage. If your car were to ever flip over and have the roof crushed your head would get crushed as well because your body can’t move at all.
Here’s what I did. I left the stock shoulder strap in the car and took out the stock lap belt. I use the harness lap belt and the stock shoulder strap for daily driving. I only use the harness shoulder straps when I’m autocrossing and I don’t have to worry about the car flipping over because it is a safe, controlled environment.

I don’t see how you can call the way i did it unsafe…think about it this way, a 4pt harness is alot safer than ANY stock seatbelt system. i don’t think the way i have it is dangerous at all. plus the 4pt harness has the quick release button for the seatbelt, so just in case your car does end upside down, you could get it off quick. just my opinion, but i think it would look bad, to have the shoulder straps mounted to the rear seatbelt points. right now my momo 4pt is just for show and for seatbelt legality purposes. I eventually plan on getting a roll bar though, then i can mount the straps to it.

4 point belts are very dangerous as they have no play and can injure you in some instances when not mounted properly.

My personal advice would be to sell the belts and purchase a three point which looks like a 4 point but the rear is a a Y. These type were designed for cars with no roll bar.

You can pick these up from Crow ect with a camlock design for 110 bux or less.

Then use the factory seat rails to mount the front and to be safe you will need to find a place to drill a hole with a reinforcement plate as is proper.

The last thing you want to do is to injure your self in this method as I’ve had peeps do just that and its very painful.
