where is the transmission breather cap?

well im kinda need to this forum and my question is…where exactly is this breather cap?? yeah its on top of the tranny duh but is it on the left hand side next to the starter?? or behind it?? how does it comes off? u just pull it out with ur hand so u can put transmission fluid??..any1 has a pic of it??..thanx for yours guys help… my tranny is working rough and i want to fill the tranny with sum fluid

the breather cap does not feed into the tranny fluid, it feeds on to the bell housing. if you drop any oil there your going to drench your clutch and flywheel.
mind telling us why your looking for a breather cap.
if its to fill in Honda teams fluid then you can remove the speed sensor and drop some oil there with a long funnel.
not sure if the auto trannys have a breather cap sorry.

really damn i just poured sum trans fuild thru the breather hole, i have a 5 speed tranny…where exactly is the speed sensor?? dont i gotta becarefull takin the speed sensor off, i had view sum posts that some people end up breaking the speed sensor

da6xsi06 is wrong, don’t worry about the fluid you poured into the breather cap, it did go into the trans, not into the clutch housing. The breather cap is the only vent for the part of the trans that is filled w/ fluid, the clutch housing portion of the transmission has a different venting system.

Why not just fill it the way that you’re supposed to, thru the filler hole? You need to remove that filler plug either way so you know how much fluid to put in. Just get yourself a funnel and a piece of tubing (fuel line works well) long enough so that you can insert one end of the tubing into the filler hole, then have it pop up thru the engine compartment with the funnel attached.

oops i’m going to have to check my spare tranny that I have in the garage. my bad…

@colin thanx for your info…well when i took the filler hole only i didnt touch the drain plug and fluid started to come out right away, so that means that my transmission had too much fluid inside already??.. and i just fill up with almost a quart of honda mt couple of days ago, is it aa good idea to reused the transmission fluid that comes out of the filler hole? because i think i put too much fluid, isnt that bad right?

Filling the trans isn’t an exact science unfortunately. This same thing happened to me yesterday when I changed my axles. Don’t worry too much about it, as long as you’re using the filler hole as your indicator for when it’s full you should be OK. The only thing that does have an effect is the angle of the car. If only the front end is up then it won’t fill with as much fluid due to the angle of the car. I’ve never had any problems with it being over or under full.

You can reuse fluid if it’s new, but if it’s old then obviously you should just replace it. Yesterday I reused mine but that’s because it’s only a few months, and less than 1k miles, old.

thanx for the tip @colin …colin i was gona ask you, by my intake manifold when i turn the key to the second time before u crank the car, i hear like air coming out out of somewhere in the middle on the intake manifold i try and see what it is but i can find anything… this started happening after i clean my acv sensor which is behind the manifold right?..iono why is it doing that.

Never heard of anything like that. You could do some research on the IACV (idle air control valve), but any air being moved around w/o the engine actually being on sounds strange to me. It’d have to be pressure built up while the engine was on and then releasing itself later. Just not sure where that would be happening.

Could be just something powering up like how when the fuel pump primes it whines a little…that’s just a guess cause that’s a strange issue.

thanx for the info again…@ colin well i have this problem i clean my acv sensor which is located behind the intake manifold i think thats waht it calls correct me if im wrong, but the wierd thing is that now when i turn my key two times when all the lights comes on in the dash before you crank the car i can hear this noice on around the intake manifold like its Gushing out air from somwhere but i can figure out where exactly its coming from…
