i have a oem spoiler but i want to take it off and fill in the holes with some rubber plugs or something. does anyone know where to get them? i dont have the money to bondo the wholes yet so this will be temporary and i dont want to go cheap with just tape so all the help will be greatly appreciated:up:
I would suggest leaving it on until you can fill the holes properly. There are no real ‘plugs’ for the holes, and the two effective ways to cover it are either bondo or use a filler plate and weld/grind it into the holes. I wouldn’t bondo it myself, but you can do w/e.
If you really want to take it off now, get five small bolts with flat heads and a matching nut and paint the head the same color as your car. Put some clear silicone sealant on the nut and bolt head where they will contact the hatch. Tighten the nut on the inside of the hatch and wipe off excess silicone. The silicone is so water won’t leak in through the holes and rust them or your trunk out. It won’t look too horrible. You can try it with some kind of epoxy and a filler but that would possibly jack up your paint. Good luck.
i searched around and found some people had some auto part stores in there area that had rubber plugs that fit well. im not sure if there is any in my area
I’ve got plugs in mine, looks like shit but I didn’t do it, the previous owner did.
Do it once, do it right.
ive seen some decent rubber plugs before but on the dc2’s and they looked pretty good. ive looked at homedepot already and nothing :bang:
imo a black rubber plug looks worse than the small hole left from the spoiler… Any plug is going to be larger than the hole its filling, and not going to match your color unless your car is black…
No need to fill the holes for leaks cause they don’t lead into the cabin of the car…
Yes but if water gets in there, say hello to rust. It takes time but why even introduce a little bit.
Go to a quality auto parts or home hardware place (no vato zone or home depot, try NAPA). They’ve usually have plugs and that sort of stuff in the back. Find something roughly the same size as the spoiler bolt (a bit bigger so it will press in).
ok i’ll do that today hopefully they have something
Water is only going somewhere its allowed to go anyway, the water drips right through the hole onto the top of the taillight. Rain water normally drains from the roof down the sides of the hatch in this area anyway… I’ve had mine off for years, no rust.
one of the reasons why i don’t want to keep the wholes open is because it looks like cheap to me. rubber plugs aren’t too much better but it looks a little better so that’s good enough for me
Yes but only the four on the outside. You don’t have the fifth mounting point? The hole in the middle of my hatch is a few inches in front of the lock, and with my spoiler off water collects in pools inside the hatch frame and in my truck below the hole.
iirc there’s drain holes for that as well. I guess it’s not as big of a deal for me as I’m in california and it barely rains here, rust is the least of my worries. The real worry is the sun fading your paint.
I took mine off a while back and just put electric tape to cover the holes. I know it’s ghetto but, it works. It’s never leaked. Plus, since my car is black, you can’t really tell. I’ll eventually weld them shut though . . . evnetually.
x2 on the electric tape !
:werd: Coulda fooled me, cause my shit gets soaked. We don’t get consistent rain. When it does though, it’s a full out fuckin monsoon, plus if it’s winter all that water freezes overnight, then thaws, freezes, thaws, freezes… same reason why Spokane has the shittiest roads in the state. I’d trade more sun for less rain and no snow any day… well atleast for my car when I can’t garage it.
X3
Electrical tape was my original fix as well. Nice thing is that it comes in tons of different colors, the white did a decent job of matching frost white
seem very ghetto to have tape but if i cant find plugs maybe i can get white tape but where do they sell that? never seen white tape before
Check out your local hardware store. I think Home Depot might have an assortment of colorful tapes.
cool thanks! if i find plugs maybe i can do plugs and white electrical tape
