shit, even if i wanted it there, where would it bolt onto

I bought a plate relocation bracket from H-T member RoaringTurtle for $21 shipped, came with all hardware (though I added 2 aditional washers because the bolt heads were coming through the underside of the bumper). You have a choice of a left/right bracket (check his post, you’ll see pics), I opted for the left. Easy install, just (take off bumper & flip upside down),drill 2 holes underneath bumper, above fins & tighten it up.
Only thing I changed on the bracket was priming/painting it black with Duplicolor Trim Paint, as i was doing my side mirrors. Works well, very sturdy & most of all legal, as it passed a Sherrif’s inspection today!!!
I had my bumpoer mounts shaved so for n ow my plate hangs inside the bumper via straps. what I might do is I saw a memebr put the plate on the underside of the passenger window visor. whenevr he wanted to show it. he just flipped the visor straight down, or even at the full angle*but that way the plate will be ahrd to see i think). I thought hanging is straight vertical would impair my vision of driving but I tested it uot and it doesn’t get in the way at all
Haven’t had a front one on, ever and I live in California where it is illegal and have never been stopped or questioned
UPDATE: I actually just drilled two self tapping screws into the bumper itself just udner the turn signal. I lined the back ofthe palte with double sided cushion tape to nto scratch the bumper especialyla t the edges. I then curled the plate at the side to conform to the bumpers bend. I’ll take more pics later:
um it’s at the DMV still…I assume anyways. LOL only had my teg for 10 days now.
Tchleung, that looks so nice, i’m going to have to be a biter in the case and copy you
NP: just a tip. I’d maybe monut the palte even further towards the driver side. cause as you see, I didn’t move it voer enoguh so the corner of the plate is kinda in teh “mouth” of the bumper.
Old thread but does anyone know where i can get one of those liscnse plate covers that tint the liscense plate?
ebay
in some states thats illegal because some of them wont let u take pictures of the plate on camera
autozone??
I stuck mine between the rubber damper (on the back of the interior rear view mirror) and the glass. I installed some foam tape all the way around the edge of the plate to minimise the rattle and it sits there pretty good. The plate now acts as an additional visor between my visors like the Legends use.
Joe.
i rock one of these in carbon fiber mounted in the stock holes. gives about a 40-degree down tilt.
Super Jdm!
IMO, the best place for the front plate is underneath your driver seat…if a cop asks where it went, tell him that u were looking for a way to mount it cuz it fell off or your bolts got lost or something…If you have to mount it, then put it in the stock location, having it to the side, or crooked, or on your dash is :gay:
in cali, it is best to have it on there, be it cocked, crooked, hanging, one bolted, cock-eyed or whatever. better to have it and not get pulled, than nothave it and get pulled and possibly written up for more BS than necessary.
In Ca. it is illegal to have it anywhere but in the stock location. Having it visible (dash, visor, etc…) is not good enough. My G/F’s DA is completely stock and she has no front plate and has not been hassled by cops about it even when she got pulled over. I want to relocate mine, but I just KNOW I will get shit for it.
im in cali and mine has been off for about 6 months, havent gotten hassled for it yet. knocks on wood
its more about whether or not you’re getting pulled over just for having your particular car or because of an infraction. I was in the passenger lane and had a license plate violation tagged on since he was already giving me a ticket.
I relocated mine with a password:jdm bracket. It is high quality thick metal, nicely coated black. I bought the one for the US driver side but it turned out that it looks better upside down on the passenger side. Comes with all the hardware, all you need to do is tap a hole. I’ll have pics soon enough.
on my 91 … i put it under the little rubber piece for the rear view mirror … just look you will see what im talking about… it never falls or anything and in cali. you legally have to have a front plate and i had a chp compliment me about where i have it …
