Ok the guy I’m getting my tranny from has a DC header for a B16 and B17. I’ve got a B16A1 head on a B17A1 block thats going in a 1991 Sedan. Which one do I need?

hehehehe, and could I put whichever header that turns out to be on my B18A1 in the mean time?![]()

Steve, the B16A and B17A both have the same head AND block. The only difference that makes their displacement different is the stroke. So, as long as the header is for a 90-91 (whick I’m asuming your car catagory falls under), you’ll be fine and yes, you can use it on your B18A1 in the mean time.
yeah, IVE is right. you can swap in any b series engine into our cars and you just use the 90-91 header, unless you want the jdm itr ones.
hey IVE, if i get a 92-93 header, and 92-93 exhaust will that all bolt up correctly in my 91? I know that the header won’t work by itself, but will it if i get the 92-93 exhaust? (i know its a stupid question cause it seem like i wouldn’t need/want to do that, but trust me, it might be necessary)
So, I can pick up a DC sports One piece header for a B16A and put that on my B17 and B18? I’m just double checking cause for some reason I can never keep which header goes where straight in my head.

Not necessarily. the 92-93 exhaust is longer than the 90-91, that I’m positive, but as for the header, I was under the impression that the 92-93 was longer as well. This leaves the cat being the part of the difference in length. Also, even if the lengths balanced each other out by matching the right header with the alternate exhaust or vice versa, there will still be a slight deviation in fittment, as in the case of Jeff’s car. He has a 90 sedan with a 92-93 coupe exhaust, and although this makes it fit pretty damn close (as been generally accepted to have fit given this combination), it is not dead on (the tip being the slight noticing factor). Just something to think about if you wanted to mix and match.

In the case with our cars, go for the year of your car, not the year of the engine that it came out of, so in your case, a 90-91 header.
You’re the man IVE, thanks again.

ah, so the cats are different also? I was under the impression that the 92-93 exhaust was longer, but that the header was slightly shorter. huh, i guess i’ll have to figure it out when the time comes.
thanks ive.
