Which LSD do you prefer?

I just got a bargain bobs crazy basement discount on a '00 ITR engine. planning on mating it to my 91 tranny. i already need a LSD the way it is, i KNOW ill need one after. Any suggestions? im not wanting to spend a grand like the cusco or quaife.

buy the itr transmission… the 91 trans will suck on the type r… either find a short geared b16 or gsr…

everyone keeps saying that the ls tranny sucks on the itr, does it suck worse on the itr than the ls engine? i know i can already burn through 1st with ZERO time with my engine. i can only imagine how cripplingly short the first two gears would be with another 60hp added. unless there is something else im missing. also even the ls 5th gear is too short for extended highway driving. so does the ls tranny just suck on the itr for drag or something?

thanks for the link. paying for rent, the engine, and a ‘certain’ kind of diamond ring this week. droppin another $600 for a lsd for few weeks is out of the question

u will be disapointed if u use ur ls… the gears are way to long for the itr… honestly if u want cable then just try and find a j1 with the factory lsd… i forgot the actually code of the trans… but if u want to see what its like with the ls trans… its ur money do what u want…

my question is does the ls tranny suck worse on the ITR that it does on the LS engine?

personally i like the ls trans… but with that higher reving engine its going to take forever to reach max rpm and ur powerband… u want a short geared trans to keep u in ur powerband longer and get u there faster.

cool, thats what i was looking for

This chart may not be 100% accurate, but you get the idea.

While the 1st gear ratio is the same once you factor in the final drive it’s not. Anyway to give you a 2nd answer to your question: Yes your 91 LS trans will suck on a B18C5 vs. when bolted up to your B18A1.

As stated before, you will have to work to keep it in the “power band” of the VTEC engine. The LS trans + B18A/B or B20B/Z are meant to take advantage of the low to mid range torque. Will it bolt up? Sure it will, but I don’t think you will enjoy the driving. If you are a real glutton for punishment, go ahead and use your LS trans for a while sine it sounds like you don’t have the cash needed for an LSD trans anyway. Once you do have ~$800 to $1200 to spend then you can find a JDM cable trans with factory LSD, or get the LSD diff for yours. Just remember part of your price will have to include a new clutch if you get a 92+ trans, or when you overpower your stock clutch. And you will.

i replaced the clutch/flywheel about 2 years ago (god, doesnt seem that long ago) it was supposed to be an exedy stage 2 clutch? but i think it was just the regular one. as long as the flywheel mates up i dont mind getting a new clutch. i dont plan on puttin this in til sometime next summer, so ill look around for tranny setups. the one thing that i desperately want to set up though, is a longer 5th gear. 4k rpm just to do 85 sucks to and from work

wow lucky u. mines 4.5k at 85 miles an hour…

4.5k? which trans do you have?

jdm ys1 lsd… with lightweight flywheel.

i use a quaife in my jdm y-1 and an ls 5th gear …

best of both worlds imho…

at 80mph im reved up to 4750-4800rpm, not sure what trans though… no stamp on it, cable type with jdm b16 so S1 or J1?

quaife, life type warrenty gear type

I like Clutch type LSD’s i just dont like overhauling them haha.

Solid, what do you mean by overhauling the clutch type LSD?

i cant imagine drivin at 5k for any extended amount of time. i drive to iowa and florida a couple times a year and its 500 miles to iowa and 1600 to florida. not to mention the daily commute
