I’m going to be getting a universal muffler and have a muffler shop bend me some 2.25" piping back from a carsound highflow cat. I want something not too loud and to have a deep, pleasing tone to it. Which one of these universal Magnaflow mufflers do you think would work the best for me?? And what size resonater do you guys reccomend I get to achieve the sound I’m looking for?? All the mods I have so far is a AEM short ram intake. I will also be getting a used DC or new Megan 4-2-1 header within the next month.
This Magnaflow Oval is known as the ES Tuning muffler. They’re exactly identical in every aspect except for color and badging… proved by the owner of Kteller himself!
So that muffler is a pretty good one then?? How do you think that muffler would sound with a carsound cat, 2.25" piping, and a 18" resonater?? Like I said, I dont want anything too loud or annoying. Just a nice deep sounding exhaust. Think this will do it for me? Cops around here are assholes and I dont wanna get fucked with too much.
Also, anybody know where I could get a nice, cheap 4" tip??
You want a good sounding, deep muffler but you want a 4’’ tip? I don’t think my description of good sounding would be anywhere close to yours. Search honda-tech for ES Tuning muffler and listen to the vids.
I wasnt aware you couldnt have a 4" tip and a good sounding, deep muffler at the same time. :squint:
Yeah I want a 4" tip. So what?? The tip doesnt affect sound at all. My bro has the Greddy SP and I like the looks of that, and that has a 4" tip. Why would me wanting a 4" tip change my opinion of a deep, smooth sounding exhaust??
First off, exhaust sounds are a very subjective thing. You can’t just say “Yeah it sounds deep” and expect people to know exactly what it will sound like. For all you know they’re expecting a V8 rumble.
Secondly, I’ve never heard anyone that wants a nice burbly low toned exhaust that doesn’t shake your brains at certain RPM’s and want a 4’’ tip. I could care less if you want a 4’’ tip, please read what I wrote along with my ‘subjective exhaust’ line just above this one.
Find the videos of the ES tuning muffler… and if you like it, put your style tip on there.
I understand what ur saying. I just wanted a 4" tip because I like how the Greddy SP looks and would like something similair in style.
I found a couple vids and I think I’m going to try one of those mufflers. Some sounded like crap but I plan on using a 18" resonater so we’ll see how it turns out. And the one I saw where dude was using a carsound cat sounded pretty bad ass. The only problem is I dont want anything too loud and you cant get a good idea of db’s through a video.
Only thing wrong with those vids (at least the ones I saw) is that they’re a misrepresentation of what it really sounds like. I know a guy that has a G3 with this muffler. He has a header, hi flow cat, and 2.25’’ piping and it sounds nothing like those. The engine is a B18B with just an intake… so pretty close sounding to what a G2 might sound like with a B18A. If you’ve ever heard a turbo DSM with 3’’ piping it sounds about the same, just not as loud… but with the same tone and it rumble.
What I’m saying is that all the ones I’ve seen are on 1.6L’s and usually have been modded pretty heavily in the compression area giving it that higher pitch tone.
Good luck on the exhaust and post up vids or at least pics of it!
I recently purchased a 90 gs with an N1 style exhaust and it’s too loud. I need to change it to a quieter system but I don’t have a lot of $. I was thinking of going to a local exhaust shop and getting a system made but I have no idea about what kind of muffler to use. I am looking for something with a good rumble but fairly quiet and not like a leafblower. Also, what diameter of piping would be good, I’m thinking either 2.25" or 2.5". Lastly, what would you recommend as far as resonators go, length wise? I need something that will give me a little extra oomph without tickets. Thanks
Integpk: you said cops are A-holes in your area but you want something noticable? Well if their anything like a**holes over here then you should just get a greddy. Cause you can still get harrassed just for having the exhaust moddified…it doesnt matter if its legal, there are laws that prohibit moddifying of a street car.
whitelightning: get a glass-packed resonator from a muffler shop and have them weld it on.
