Helms, and treat it like a bible. A very greasy, almost un-readable bible over time, but they are more than worth the 60 bucks. It’ll pay for itself on your first repair alone, i can almost gurantee it. Just don’t get Chilton’s, it’s way too broad & doesn’t cover any of the little specific details you’ll need to know.
Helms is a must no matter what. It has everything you need. Very detailed (like 1000 pages). If you cant find the version someone scanned and posted online, then buy the CD on eBay.
AND get a Haynes/Chilton for the basic stuff. Helms is better, but I keep a Haynes around iin case I just need to know something simple and I dont want to search a 1k book. =)
Oh. Search first before you post. This has been covered before.
thanks!! I appreciate it!!
I did see the other thread before. I just didn’t read it. before I posted my own I looked for it again but didn’t find it.
i would have to say helms as well… when i first bought my teg i went to schucks and picked up a chiltons. it was so broad that i endend up swapping my engine blind. although if you want to learn what to and what not to do the hard way go ahead and buy the chiltons.
where do I order a Helms from?
I just got a copied version of a manual off ebay on cd. it’s not that user friendly as far as I can tell though. where can I get a Helms book manual from? none of the auto parts stores carry that brand in my city!!
my car is a '90 LS stick
dang, they want $59 bucks on that site!! is that the cheapest place to get one??
like i said in my first post, it’s worth the 60 bucks. and yes, that’s the only place to buy it from.
I bought one from helminc and with the taxes, duty and currency conversion it was $80 CAN. It is still worth it!
I use a Chiltons, but would not recomend it to anyone who is not mechanically inclined or does not have a good understanding of how a car works to begin with. All my maintenance from engine swaps to a current transmission rebuild was based on my Chiltons. Again, not recomended to a newbie. If I needed a new manual I would probably go with a Helms as recomended by everyone.
Helms  It has everything you need to know!
thanks a lot!!
