Which tranny to use with b17a

What kind of transmission should I run with a 92 b17a engine?
I have a '90 LS 5speed without any issues, but im sure a shorter geared vtec tranny would do better.

You will not be happy with the LS transmission on the B17A. When you shift at high rpms, it will drop out of VTEC in the next gear. SUCKS. Pick up a JDM S1, YS1, J1, or USDM GSR YS1. Anyone will work great. Best of luck.

Is there any particular year transmission i need to pick up, or will any b-series cable tranny work? I remember hearing something about the number of splines on an imput shaft or something.

Any B-series short geared cable tranny will work. But if you get A JDM S1 or J1, know that you will need to use a 90-91 clutch. With the JDM YS1 or USDM GSR YS1 you will need to use a 92 up clutch. The mainshaft on early JDM Tegs and the USDM 90-91 Tegs is smaller than the 92 up USDM or late model JDM tegs. So the clutch from a 90-91 WILL NOT fit on a JDM or USDM GSR YS1 mainshaft. Read my swap guide, it explains it a little better.

k, thanks for the info, now to track down a transmission.

i have a 92 integra…B16A JDM S1 tranny on a LS/VTEC

i am now using a 99 GSR clutch…

I wonder…would it be cheaper 3rd gen gsr transmission after the cost of a hyrdo/cable conversion. im having trouble tracking down a short geared vtec transmission for a decent price.

Anyone got sources for short geared vtec trannys???

I was unaware that the late model B16A JDM Engines came with S1 transmissions. Did you get a gray plug B16A (OBD-1)? Well, my statement still stand. If you get an early year (equivelent to a 90-91 USDM Teg) JDM S1 or J1 tranny, a clutch from a 92+ Integra WILL NOT WORK. You will need to use the clutch from a 90-91 Integra.
