Hey guys… I was planning on painting my valve cover so i wanted to get a new gasket to replace the one thats already 10 years old. I found it on acuraautomotiveparts.net… but there are two… which one do i need?
come on man, this is an easy one. go out and look at your engine… now which engine looks like the one under your hood? the one in the left pic or the right pic?
if you do that its obviously number 006 for the b18a1, and 005 for the b17a1.
other things to consider:
-spark plug grommets?
-cam seal?
You need 6 and 7. #6 goes around the outside and #7 has 4 small gaskets to go around each of the spak plug holes. Or you can go to alocal autoparts store and buy the whole set. I got mine for maybe ten bucks and it was in stock. Has both the outer gasket and inner ones.
torquing the bolts it not THAT important, so long as it stays on there tight, you are fine. about getting the gasket, if its that old and you are taking it out, its a good idea to get a new one. First of all its cheap, and second, it will save you the trouble when it goes bad. If you put the old one back in, its usually corroded to a certain extent and that wouldnt be wise. But if it looks good, i guess its not a big problem.
make sure when tighting bolts up not to go to tight just 7lbs
trust me i broke one off damn faulty torque wrench
also if you get new seal, be sure to retighten it up in about a week because the seal will get hot and set, so it needs to be tightened up again to avoid leaks
