Who here is using a twin loop muffler?

I have been playing with the idea lately as I do not like a buzzy exhaust, and want to see the concensus was on twin loop mufflers. What I am thinking is 2 1/2 mandrel bent, with a 24in resinator and high flow cat. Any opinions or comments are welcome.

why 2.5 inch exhaust?

Well if I am correct most catback systems are 2.25" and I want to have a quiet good flowing exhaust (I do not want an rsr) that will give the engine some room to grow. This will be going into a 90 auto db1, but when I get around to swaping my spair tranny in (s1), I will either be rebuilding (mild build), or going with a b16a1. Right now the car has an aem cold air, and a megan 4-2-1. Soon it is going to get an edelbrock w/ 2 1/2" collector and I want to replace the dying oem exhaust.

Its not something I am going to be doing right now, but I want to start piecing together components soon.

cheaply made twin loop > RS*R

Woo.

Digital, obviously you have paid no heed to any of my post regarding your smart ass comments, but don’t bother if you have nothing to contribute. Cheap ass? No, I cannot stand the sound of a raspy four banger and am not impressed with the rsr. what other options are there? None, our chassis is the red headed step child of honda and most of the aftermarket support is junk. How about you go back to the k inquisition where you hold the title of expert dumbass. Personally I find most products to be lacking in quality and design and perfer to build my own. Why not when I have access to tig and mandrel pipe benders, not to mention free materials.

My 7 word reply prompted all of that.

I was really just going to leave it at that but now I think I’ll stay and “ruin” your thread. By the way, before I start, I have nothing to contribute. Start a petition to get me banned.

My point merely was, you claim the RSR lacks in quality and design, yet are putting a twin loop “style” muffler on your car (must be, since they don’t make a twin loop for the DA). I haven’t seen a single twin loop “style” muffler that was superior in quality and design to an RSR. So, kablooey, there goes your dumb fuck argument.

If you have access to a TIG welder and free materials, why not make your own titanium muffler? It’s not like it hasn’t been done before and it wasn’t that hard, so I doubt it would be impossible, especially for a fabricator like yourself. That way, you could have the most awesomest amazing non-raspy (still haven’t heard a raspy RS*R yet, but maybe it’s the CA weather that makes them sound better here) muffler ever.

(I have no idea when Shaun Carlson joined the forum, but apparently kudos to you… I really liked the first yellow hatch, groundbreaking. )

Did I say that the rsr lacked quality or design? No, I did not. I said I do not want an rsr. On g2ic the word rsr and quiet seem to be the same and I wanted to make that clear. I want to go with a twin loop design for noise purposes, and I would also consider hytechs twin loop to be a rather nice piece. Yes I have been playing with the idea of doing a complete system as it would open up a whole avenue in sound tuning; however, I haven’t made any decisions yet, which is the reason for starting this thread. You know what, dont worry about it, you are probibly busy working on your da right now, wait isnt that patricks car?? Anyways this thread is done, I found what I was looking for on honda-tech.

Oooh ouchie. That might’ve hurt. But, it didn’t. Just because you don’t see it on the internet doesn’t mean I’m not doing it kiddo. I’m a little old fashioned, and since I claim to be doing it for myself, I keep it to myself. I don’t give a fuck if you want to see my project or not, so I don’t put it up.

That free speech thing really chaps your ass when people like me take advantage of it, doesn’t it?

The only “raspy” catback exhuast that I’ve heard for the DA is the RS*R GTII. That is the straight piped, slip fit race exhaust.

You DO have other options:

  1. GReddy SP2 (not raspy as all)

  2. Tanabe Hyper Medallion (not raspy at all)

  3. HKS Hiper (not raspy at all until above 6,000 rpm)

  4. Thermal R&D

our chassis is the red headed step child of honda

Nope. That’d be the Prelude.:corn:

3rd generation (88-91) prelude to be exact.

ive owned 3 =)

knowledge, yea the problem is everyone’s perspective is different so what some people consider a loud or a raspy exhaust may be perfectly fine to someone else. I have not heard the thermal, but I have rode in integras (not all 2nd gens though) with the others, and wasn’t impressed; however, I am very picky with noise and vibrations. Hell, I put 80lbs of sound deadening into my other teg. After looking into it, I decided that I am going to fabricate a custom twin loop that has a removable backplate for maintence. The problem is that when the fiberglass wears out, they become rather noisy and need to be replaced, so instead I am going to design a muffler similar to those on fourstroke bikes. That way I can have a quiet long lasting exhaust. Most likely I will use 304 stainless, but it really depends on when I get around to starting.

Put an OBX twin loop on my pops 95 gsr sedan and it is nice!! It has great sound. It gets louder when you push it but not too loud. I love it. It was only $90 shipped on ebay. Welds look to be good quality. If I needed a new muffler on my DA I’d try to get one of them to fit.
