Hey late apexers…(sorry quarter milers, no time slips in this thread).
Who’s planning a track event soon? I’m going to Summit point in March and then to Road Atlanta to drive my friends 300 hp turbo Miata. He’s trying to get his Super Comp license for NASA and and I’m signed up for the HPDE event the same weekend. I think I’ll be spoiled after a day with that car on that track. It is prepped for the Performance Tuning class. Looking forward to get the GS back up to it’s potential here though…
I think there are quite a few autocrossers on this board, but not too many circuit racers I don’t think. Although very capable, the DA is a somewhat disadvantaged chassis when compared to the EG6, EK4, and DC2, which is why I don’t think many people choose to use it as a race car platform. I’ll be tagging along with a friend to Laguna Seca in a couple of weeks and hopefully be involved in at least a few time attack events over the course of the next few months.
Always glad to see there’s someone else serious about track racing.
I’m planning on going around spring time. I’ve only been once in '04…it’s addicting…great fun!! :cloud9: I still smile when I think about it. You’re just so free when you’re on the track! It’s expensive though. I wanna try thunder hill next, here in nor cal. I hear you don’t need a membership fee for some of the events on that track. A road race meet would be an awesome idea
yeah the DA chassis is weak, needs lots of reinforcements, but im still trying to get in the circuit racing myself. it’s hard working partime and going to school and trying to do it but i’m working on it slowly, its all about the buying the important parts to make it fun.
Didn’t realize the DA is a bit of a problem child at the track. I plan on making my setup pretty stiff and leaving a significant amount of weight still in the car so obviously chassis flex is a concern of mine. I saw the pop rivet reinforcements and unibody supports that Pat did in his Mugen Bin Special (no offense intended Pat…you’re my hero) so maybe a roll bar and some reinforcements will just be part of my learning process. L
Just learned about NASA Time Trials and I’m leaning toward that as my end of summer goal.
It’s do-able, just have to work a bit harder than everyone else to get where they started is all. Keep in contact with Pat through email, he’s always excited to hear about other DA enthusiasts who are serious about tracking their car and he’ll be glad to help with information or experience. If not tell me and I’ll make him do it!

Actually, it all depends on the classing. I have a DA for SCCA’s ITA class. It is actually one of the best choices right now for that class. To see what the front runners are using check the ARRC (IT championships) results. This year a DA got 2nd, last year one won. For NASA’s Honda challenge 4, the DA is also a good car to have (got 2nd at this past years NASA championships). Of course, the other competitive car to have is the 89-91 CRX Si.
When moving up to Prod class (again SCCA), the DA appears to be too heavy for its engine as the Honda of choice there is the Prelude (won the EP championship this past year).
For faster Honda challenge classes in NASA, everyone appears to be using the Civics and swapping in Integra and Prelude motors.
Anyway, its nice to see other fellow road racers on this forum. ckdc, I think you’ll have a lot of fun with the DA on track. I know I do.
I agree, and I chose my words carefully to say “somewhat” since the DA chassis can more than hold its own in any class. That statement stems from countless conversations we’ve had that had we just put the time and work into an EG, EK, or DC chassis that we had into the DA, we’d be a lot faster since most of the work we’ve done on the DA has been to get it to where other chassis start from.
And again, always great to see DAs on the track. It’s my favorite chassis by far and I will continue to love them till the day I die.
Thanks guys…spent today tracking down an oil leak, cleaning the engine, taking off a bad tire, all in prep for my first event on 3/8. Looking for some Konis and springs this week.
i got my knuckles on so im rolling on all 4 studs again, now i have to change thermostat and fix idle problem, flush brake fluid, and get a sway bar kit and i should be ok for the track.
