why am i shaking?

91 ls, 140k. just replaced both axles and the intermediate shaft. the car shakes when accellerating above 40 mph (could be 3rd, 4th, and 5th grears). when turning left it pops (kinda like a bad CV joint), when turning right its smooth. the car does not have to be under load (accelleration) to pop when it turns, but it must be under load to shake going straight. to rule out balance i rotated my tyres and the problem is the same.

i have replaced the passanger side axle again, still shakes. anything else it could be besides the cv joint? my next guess is the trans, but this did not happen before i replace the joints. i used mobil 1 5w30 im my transmission, but i dont see how that would affect it. i dont see how i could have hosed the tranny as i was pretty carefull removing parts.

any ideas?

i have that same problem and also would like to know
i also posted this same tpoic and got one response saying
it might be a bad tire i changed both front tires and still shakes
over 40mph does any one know what causes this:confused:

could be a motor/trans mount. or have your timing checked, could have a glogged fuel filter or injector, fuel pump? fuel regulator? A LOT of things can cause a shake on a car…

I’m assuming you haven’t checked a repair manual, so here goes…

Shudder or vibration during acceleration

  • Excessive toe-in
  • Incorrect spring heights
  • Worn or damaged inboard or outboard CV joints
  • Sticking inboard CV joint assembly

Vibration at highway speeds

  • Out of balance front wheels and /or tires
  • Out of round front tires
  • Worn CV joints

Shimmy, shake or vibration

  • Tire or wheel out-of-balance or out-of-round
  • Loose or worn front hub or wheel bearings
  • Worn tie-rod ends
  • Worn suspension components
  • Excessive wheel runout
  • Blister or bump on tires

That might help. BTW, is it making any kind of noise?

Let us know,

it is not the engine, if it were it would happen in all gears, not just at 40+ mph. you have a point tho, if my timing was off my car would shake while turning left, yet be smooth while turning right. did you actually read my post?

i’ve ruled all those out, with the exception of the wheel bearing which im 80% sure is ok. i’ve never take out an acura wheel bearing as it requires a press, but there is absolutly no play in it and it makes no noise when i spin it around. i’m leaning toward something in the tranny, which would explain the shaking but why would it pop while turning left? 3 remanufactured axles all had the exact same problem. it cant be the cv joints…

not much noise, just what i can feel. you can hear the popping a little bit. the other wierd thing is i feel it more through the chassis of the car then i do the steering wheel, which makes me think further it is the tranny…

i mentioned the timing because it might be advanced/retarded in a way that might cause the engine to shake when reving… only reason i mentioned it is because a while back i went camping and jus so happen to burn out my distributor. well in the process the intake cam locked and the exhaust cam sliped 18 degrees. well i got the car started (somehow) and when i got to like 10mph it would jus start vibrating. like it was hitting the rev-limiter. thats why i suggested the timing dass all  ~Andee…

my cars not making any noise its just that vibration and shaking steering wheel
i thought my wheels was loose but they werent
so im going to take it to the shop and let them look
at it and figure it out
