Don’t tell me “oh it’s cable, that’s just how it is.” I don’t buy it.
Left work today and clutch feels smooth as butter, minimal effort to push and just all around pleasant. Go hit some golf balls and when i leave, it feels like dog shit…harder to push down and it makes an almost like rubber against rubber sound, but still engages just like normal.
My cable is not the issue. I do know that much cause its been like this through 2 different cables with this one now being new and OEM, although it is like close to 2 years old.
What causes this??? Only thing that I can think is cause I didn’t get my flywheel resurfaced when I replaced the clutch 3 years ago. Clutch overall is strong and grabby regardless.
More than anything, I just don’t get why one day its a dream, then the next it’s hell. This annoying problem Is the one reason I would ever consider a hydro swap and that seems ridiculous.
If you’re 100% sure it’s the cable then my second guess would be that it’s throw-out bearing related. When was the last time you replaced the clutch and throw out bearing? Flywheel isn’t going to have anything to do with pedal pressure. It could effect how the clutch feels, but only during engagement, and it wouldn’t be related to how easy/hard it is to press the clutch. If the problem has to do with how hard it is to press the pedal and the actual engagement is normal then the things I’d look into would be: cable, throw out bearing, then pressure plate.
Don’t get upset and think Hydro is your answer, that’s a whole lotta worthless hassle IMO.
Collin is right. Listen to him. Throw out bearing and the spring could be to blame. Could be the cable needs adjustment or maybe its binding on something that can shift around causing it to only happen sometimes.
Actually I think the clutch is 4 years old now. I didn’t change the clutch but a friend did, hopefully he changed bearing too.
Either way, this problem has been persistent for a while. I’ve changed or messed with the cable adjustment many times. I’m thinking it has to be an internal issue of some kind.
Just a reason to start over come replacement time and do all the work myself. Car could never be down long enough for hydro swap anyways, but I just remember hydro never pissed me off. Haha. It’s such a tease when it’s working flawless.
mine is like that too, well its pretty much always smooth but engages at different points sometimes, i just chalk it up on the its a cable trans one and deal with it haha
You guys are wrongly blaming the cable setup. If everything is working properly, then the cable setup is great, and I actually like the feel a little better. Hydro has its own share of problems to, you just haven’t had them.
What type of things would be good to replace on the tranny without doing much more than removing the case? Obviously seals and such, anything else? I’m not looking to get into the gear sets if I can help it. Weekend replacement type stuff, 3 days at max.
Clutch and new light flywheel (or lighten your stock one). Clutch will come with throw out and pilot bearings. You may also want/need to replace the spring for the throw out bearing. That’s pretty much it though, maybe your axle seals?
Also, I like to clean up all the splines for the axles and use a little anti-seize on all of those surfaces when I reinstall, makes removing them later a piece of cake.
