Wierd Noise From Front Suspension Mechanic Cant Figure It Out

I think i have a bad bushing in the upper control arm on the left front of my 92 DA. and its been going on for awhile… the bushing does look blown out and the mechanic looked at it said nothing was wrong but the bushing of the control arm looks DONE. So i am thinking that is what is causing my noises as the body shifts and when I go over speed bumps or when your driving slow over pot holes on a driveway or anywhere or even just pulling into someplace and youu go over that little bit of a curb it makes the noise.

Also if u push down on the driver side and get it going enough you can hear the “creak” “creak” Oh and if this helps any I let the guy from the shop take a ride around the block he heard the noise right away came in and said oh you have a broken coil spring. They put the car up and checked out everything and couldnt see anything wrong…

Usually creek noises are from ball joints or cheap aftermarket camber kits. But that is usually the bushings in the camber kits. If your body is shifting when you go over bumps it is almost a dead giveaway that your bushings are weak. The mechanic should have seen something when checking it out.

well maybe “body shifting” was the wrong term. I dont know if its actually shifting… i just mean like when im going slow like 10-20km/h down a long dirt driveway and u go in and out of of little pot holes it will make the creaking noises… along with speed bumps and sometimes when just turning slow at those speeds

and the bushing doesnt look like when u i bought the upper control arm like i said it looks crushed… so other then these noises and if that is what is causing it do u think anything could wear through?

I have creeking coming from the rear suspension. I just started a thread about pulyurethane vs. rubber bushings. I’m guessing mines coming from the ingalls rear camber kits.

so which bushing is better?? I think im going to look into just getting the bushing on the control arm replaced and seem if that does anything. im sure thats what it is just because the bushing shouldnt look the way it does

that’s my question.

A good way to see if it is ball joints are making noise is if the noise happens while turning. Are you saying you bought control arms and the busings where shot? It probably is your bushings. If you are going to replace them and want a camber kit, or dont want a camber kit it would probably be a good idea. Probably not much more. But I would just replace the upper control arm with a name brand camber adjusting arm. A lot of cheap aftermarket camber adjustments will eventually make creeking noises because they have cheap bushings in them. It is almost like the rear trailing arm bushings on civics and integras. They make better bushings for them because the OEM ones where designed bad and there is a recall for them. That also can cause a creeking noise. But I am not saying that is your problem, just an example.

yeah it was a cheap control arm but instead of buying a new control arm cant i just get a new good quality bushing and get it put in?? And say that was the problem with a bad bushing will it just make annoying noises or is is slowly wearing away at things???

Do you have ground control coilovers?

no, no coil overs just neuspeed springs front and back… but front is lower then the back by a little and has that nice stance. thats about all i know i didnt do any of the stuff to it, its just the way i bought it. and ive put about 45,000km since i bought it and the noise seemed to of started to happen after i got the arm replaced… then i jacked it up and the bushing looked mangled but have just been driving it since

I had the same problem so I changed both lower ball joints and hub bearings and now all I hear is the sound of the road.:cloud9:

If you have aftermarket control arms you might be able to replace the bushings with OEM ones but might not fit right. If the control arm came with bushings then it might. But if did not come with bushings then OEM bushings should work.

Whats the deal with GC coilovers? I have these on my 92, and I have the same problem. I was planning on replacing the upper control arms (with hop) and the upper and lower C-arm bushings with urethane. Should I be doing something else?

On a similar note, I dunno if something happened tonight, but I usually get a bit of feedback through the steering wheel , and the car rides a little hard because of the torn up bushings, but tonight it was riding a lot smoother, but a little bit less responsive. Its still making that ball joint groan over bumps, but its not driving the same. Its tough to explain, but it just feels wrong. Any idea on whats going on?

My car didn’t start making sqeeking noises until i put the ground controls on but it was fine with the lowering springs. So i’m selling the ground controls for a full coilover setup
