I just got my 215/45/16 Hankook RS2 Z212s mounted.   Autocross this weekend. Eat my dust NWR STS (well…mostly).

kickass tires

im tired and just got back from a weekend full of autox on my 215/45/16 Hankooks but here’s my quick review. I think total, the tires got 22 runs on them. 12 of them were dry, hot, dual-driving runs. ~6 were wet single driver, and about 6 were dry single driver.

  1. seemed to need a lot of psi to heat evenly across the tire. this was kept track of with the highly accurate hand-on-tire-test.
  2. gripped good cold, gripped better hot. dual drove the car 6 runs a piece, with less than 4 minutes between drives. the tires never seemed to lose grip. we kept finding time on-course.
  3. they’re not so on-off like the azenis. they make a lot of noise, but they still grip. they’re also easier to reel back in once you lose traction, front or rear.
  4. they seem to do okay in the rain, altough i suspect that the RT215 at full tread would be better, due to a stickier compound at low temperatures.
