1 week after I had a mechanic replace my rotor, cap, coil, and ignitor, my rpm’s started bounching around wildly (like from 6 → 7k in 1 second and then back again) after 6k. Sometimes it starts at 5k, sometimes (rarely) it doesnt do it at all. I can make a vid if needed. Btw my engine doesnt bounce, it accelerates smooth, so i kno its mis-reporting my rpm. Could it be my cluster? Never heard of clusters doing this… i think theres a loose conenction to the coil, but i want to be sure b4 i get loud…
ouch. i had the same problem. i had to replace the whole distributor- 200+.
that sux since they were the last to touch it. can you update this post on the details, i wonder if they caused mine to fail, cuz i was 99% sure it was the coil when i brought it in (was under warranty still) but of course they blamed the whole distributor.

ouch, its going back toe the mechanic tommorow. I’ll let ya know
after reading on all these posts about the tach jumping. i’m starting to THINK the wires in the dist. are touching sometimes due to vibration so it will go over or something like that. dont know which wire or if its the coil or ignitor that sends the signal to the tach. but its around that area. its just my thought.
I had the same EXACT problem with my car, eventually you will notice some hesitation when the tach bounces around, just not yet. Do the technique in Teg Tips on fixing bouncing tach. If that doesn’t work then you only wasted $2.78 for the dialectric grease. If you have questions on how to do the teg ti[s IM me at musicisair or e-mail me at rockonbassman@yahoo.com
