I just picked up some skunk2 lowering springs. I haven’t put them on yet because i had one guy tell me I absolutly have to have a camber kit and another said i def don’t. Can anyone help me out?
Yes get them. Usually depending on the drop, you can drive around without it for a while, But anytime you change the height of your car the wheels will camber in. So get a camber kit and save your tires.
you dont have to, but if you want even wear on the tread then its necessary. Then again you’re supposed to rotate tires every 5k or so.
But at least have your toe adjusted after the intsall. That’s what kills tires.
sweet! thanks guys. I’m planning on getting some falken azeinas in the next month or so. You think I’d be good to wait on the camber kit till then?
how far are you dropping it? I dropped my car 1" and the rear camber was still within spec, but i put in the ingalls washer kit and its got about -1 deg camber now. Its toe was messed up but i got it aligned pretty good.
the fronts i’m not going to get a camber kit for, its at -1.4 degrees and i’ve been driving on it with brand new falken ziex 512 for 3 weeks or so and i have not seen any problems. I actually want negative camber.
make sure they zero out the front toe. The rear toe should be a little bit positive, like .12 max .06 min i forget the exact #s.
I think the springs i got are supposed to drop the car like 2 inches. Sounds like your setup worked out pretty good. I figure I may just put em on and see what happens?
you could, but i think the extra 1" or so drop on your car may add one or 2 degrees to negative camber. While i’ve read on h-t about people running this much negative camber without problems, i cant say cause i’ve never really seen or experienced it before. As long as your toe is good though, you’ll just be straight wearing down on one side of the tire. Rotate every oil change or so and you shoud be good.
too much or too little toe causes the tire to scrub sideways as you move and neg. camber focuses it on that one inner side, which is why so many people kill their tires in few hundred miles.
Well, I’m def gonna get a kit then. When I do though, do you think I could just get one of those kits off of ebay?
for fronts get the revo a-arm kit. i think its about 150.
rears i suggest the ingalls upper control arm kit. around 60-70?
the washer kit only does like 3/4 degrees adjustment. Not much by any means, but for 25 both wheels it wasnt too bad.
Sweet! Thanks for all the help man, you’re the best.
You can just use some longer bolts & regular 1/8 thick washers (Well some good quality metal ones anyway.) on the rears.
Get the front kit for sure. I have Neuspeed springs that give a 1 /34" drop & I have yet to get a kit. Front or back. The tires are wearing even though. It’s wierd. I figured I’d have some uneveness by now; but nope. Still I plan to get the kit soon.
:getsome: :manual:
Corniest quote ever: "Get yours today! JDM is IN!"
well i just lowered 1" and a washer kit barely got me within spec. i think safely you can do it 3/4 degrees. Thats what ingalls does and i trust them. they give you washers and extended bolts.
lowering 2" and a washer kit will help but not necessarily get you within factory spec. But its better than nothing
and again all that crappy tire wear that people experience is usually bad toe. i’m wearing even still, and even though my rears have a slight positive toe (factory) i still can see the molding spikes on the tires (brand new). Been driving with this alignment and tires for over 3 weeks.
Cool. I’m putting the springs on this weekend. From what i’ve heard and what you guys have said I’m totally gonna get a kit before I get my new tires. I don’t really care if it wears the tires I have now though cause they’re just the stock touring tires that came with the car.
skunk2 lowering springs gives you 2" drop all around?
I’m also thinking about these springs and pairing them with Tokico Illumina.
all I have to say is since i started this thread I’ve put on and removed my skunk2 springs because they gave me the worst ride I’ve ever had. Although, as much as it pisses me off that I’ve fallen into this catagory, I used them on stock struts…huge mistake…I know, I’m an idiot. Your illuminas with the springs may be pretty sweet though. Just expect a lot of bounce on matter what though.
