Just a quick question, and Im pretty sure I know the answer… but figured I’d post up and ask the folks of G2IC.
My car has been sitting for about 2 years with very minimal driving being done (Been building a motor, repainting the car, etc etc)
Recently I’ve finished the motor and have put maybe 50 miles on it… The new problem that didnt exist before, is as follows:
On my drive to the storage facility… I noticed through my windshield, that my wipers moved like .5" up, then back to the resting position.
I thought to myself: “Odd… I must have left the wiper control in the On/Intermittent setting”
Surely enough, no. They’re in the ‘Off’ position. Hmm, maybe I’m just trippin and thought I saw something that didnt really happen.
About 2 minutes later, it happened again! Im like Ok, something is definitely up.
I try to turn the wipers on (scrolling through all of the settings) and i can NOT get the wipers to turn on. The spray nozzles work fine… But I can not get the wipers to move, weather using the knob-setting, or by pulling back on the stalk.
The only wiring under the dash that I have done was pulling out the AC system & putting in the oem delete tube under the passenger dash.
Would this be an issue caused by the ICM which decided to take a shit on me? Or does it sound like something else? Any input would be awesome, thanks guys!
I would say ICM. My shit dose this to but the wiper dose still work. But if i put the knob to the first click, the wiper don’t come on. All the other settings do work, but if i keep it set on the one setting and drive, sometimes it will go on and work good or sometimes will move fast like its on the 2ed click. Or sometime will just go up and stay up tell i stop.
Are you saying your ICM is dead or are you asking if this means it is dead?
I assume you’ve already confirmed fuse #16 is still good?
Just looking at the wiring diagram, even if your ICM is unplugged, you should be able to operate the front wipers on high and low…Oh, wait. scratch that. It should work if it is unplugged, but if it is shorted out, that could be your problem and would also explain the twitching. I would pull out the ICU and see if your wipers work on high and low (but not intermittent).
For the wiper motor itself, GRN/BLK shoudl be 12V with the ignition on and then if you ground out BLU/YEL it should operate on high and if you ground out BLU, it should operate on low.
Also, the stalk switches honda used are total crap but I don’t think that is your problem. Usually one setting will go out first when the switch goes bad.
91_LS - I would say that is almost definately your ICM. I had similar problems and believe it or not, went to a junk yard, pulled one out of the only Integra in there, and it looked like a brand new board inside. 20 minutes later, they crushed the Integra…so sad.
Gah, I guess what I am meaning is the ICU, not the ICM… Blah!
The latter would be correct, sir. Im wondering if these symptoms are being caused by my ICU. I’ve read on a few posts of people saying that if your windshield wipers go wacky that it is usually due to the ICU. I’ve just never really looked into it much simply because I’ve never had any issues like this.
I haven’t looked much into it as far as checking fuses and wiring because while it is stored away, there’s not much work I can do to it. Once I dig it out in the spring and continue to work on it, I’ll delve more deeply into it… Thanks a bunch for giving me a good run-down of things to check as I am fairly lost on this one.
The think that confuses me is I being that I didnt really do anything in the ICU area, and that I haven’t really driven the car at all in the past two years, then all of the sudden issues arise? But that’s just my luck I suppose
On a serious note though, I have had the cowl off a few times in the last few months, with painting the car and all… Maybe while I was on the passenger side I did something to the wiper motor or wiring harness. Meh!!
