Messing around in the engine bay a bit, was wondering if deleting the ww fluid reservoir would cause any harm? My common sense tells me no but im not 100%. i just wanted it to clear up some space in the engine bay cause shit it’s tighter than a virgin in there. it is my daily but i hardly use it cause i prefer cleaning my windshield manually every couple of days or so.
What trim/model is it? In my 91 DA, the only thing in the engine bay for wiper fluid, is the fill pipe or the tiny hose line(s) attached to the hood. The reservoir is inside the fender, more or less.
I’m with you on manual cleaning being far better, but there have been times of near emergency were having a functioning washer would come in handy (salt / road dirt spray).
If you feel you don’t need it, then there’s nothing wrong with removing it. I removed mine long, long ago and it was a daily driver a the time. I hated using those sprayers anyway as I thought it left the car looking messy with dirty water spots. Instead I preferred to just clean my front and rear windows every time I got gas and would wipe up any mess so there wasn’t runoff water all over the car. Fast forward 10yrs to now and if I was still dailying a DA I’d keep he washer fluid and sprayers because he urge to reduce weight and clutter in the engine bay is overshadowed by pure laziness and he most importantly the desire for as many creature comforts and conveniences as possible.
Yeah it’s not really to lose weight or anything, more just wanting to clean up the bay a bit and get rid of things i don’t use on a daily basis. I rather clean my windshield manually as i can get every inch of it and it look super clean. I removed the whole compartment today, pretty straight forward un did the 4 bolts holding it in, pulled the lines etc. However when i pulled the lines, there was a black line that came from the reservoir to the sprayers, then there was another clear line going from the reservoir to the hole the lines go through to connect to the sprayers, it wasn’t connected to the sprayers and when i pulled on it, it was tight as if it was attached to something. Anyone know what that is?
A bit hard to understand from your description, but perhaps you’re thinking about the hose that should lead to the rear washer squirter?
yup you got it. thanks colin. Im going to remove the access tubing when i do my rear wiper delete.
Removing that tubing and removing the rear wiper are not exactly “overlapping” projects. Nothing you take apart in order to remove he wiper will aid in removing the tubing for the rear sprayer. To remove the wiper you’re only dealing with the hatch and the cosmetic inner panel on the underside of the hatch. But to remove the sprayer tubing you’ll be pulling interior panels and the headliner. Personally I’d just cut it and not bother removing all the tubing, IMO it’s not worth the effort of removing all the interior stuff just to remove that tubing.
yeah it seemed like too much of a hassle, after looking at the pathway of the rear tubing.
