windshield wiper bushing kits?

longshot. but just wondering if anyone knows whether some sort of rebuild kit for the wiper linkages exists. wanting to tighten up the slop
as always, much appreciated

Whats wrong with your wipers? Mine during high speeds (60mph or 90 kmh plus) don’t wipe as well as they would going at a slower speed even though these wipers are less than a few months old.

not the blades. the linkages. they’re sloppy. noisy. i want them to feel tight again. like brand new. i’m sure hundreds of members here deal with this

I haven’t ever taken that stuff apart, but it looks like some of it is ball and socket joints?

With the exception of the wiper arms (which wouldn’t be the issue) the other pieces are relatively inexpensive. There is the link from motor to first linkage which is $10, the rods are $15 and then the pivots are $25 but there are also some suspicious “Dust Seals” which seem like they would wear out…

I wonder if you could disassemble everything, rub the parts with Vaseline or some other lubricant, put some window caulk in there and then let it harden effectively making little rubber bushings?

If you figure something out with where the slop is, let us know. And maybe I’ll take a look and check it out in person instead of just making wild guesses based on diagrams and parts catalogs.

pets his correctly-working wipers

I did this to my car cuz I lost one of the cups on the road during a storm. They have them at autozone, I believe they are for a 240sx.

Btw, they will be a little bit difficult to put on because they fit tighter than ours do, but they work great.

ye, i’ll definitely have to pull it all out and have a look at the areas of wear and see what we can do.
thanks for the suggestions

i know what you’re talking about, the little [white] plastic cups that the metal ball joints snap into. i also have a bit of slop going on there. i have not looked for OEM replacements as of yet, however, the overkill side of my brain thinks heim joints and threaded rod would work like a charm…

too bad no one would see it…

as nice as it would look its not necessary just get these:here
absolutely no play in these

ah ha… nice find. do you know that these are the right size for our linkages?

Yea. I have them on right now. The only thing is its gonna be a little tough to get them on but they are great.

I haven’t taken any apart before; are those bushings the same as the “dust seals” here? Or is there another part that isn’t shown in that diagram?

Yea that’s what they are.

good lookin out, bud! will be ordering those shortly. so there’s just the 2 bushings that should be replaced?

Yessir!
Btw, I recommend using a “decent size” channel lock to press them in place.

no doubt. thanks again, homes
