No problem, thanks for having an open mind to hear me out.
What’s funny is, I myself had the same mindset I try to steer people away from up until very recently. Me and Pat laugh about it now, but I thought “why the wing?” when I first met him. Then, talking with him sparked an interest in race car aerodynamics, and the more I researched and talked to people I realized exactly what I posted above.
If you have a teg with the smaller stock wing and come up with the wing we are talking about once the stock one is removed would there be a lip there or would you just have to fill the hole with bondo or something?? there is another teg in town with that wing and i’m going to see if i can purchase it from him and before that i would like to know the work ahead of me
and also would it use the stock bolts on the ends to hold it down or would i have to drill into my hatch?
The Hiro wing says HIRO on the side of it near the base. Just an FYI if you’re trying to buy one.
I know this wing is actually a “clip on”… it has a few bolts that hold a bracket tight around the hatch, like a sandwich. I’m sure there’s more intricacy to it that I’m missing, I honestly haven’t looked at it in that much detail to know. I don’t really know if anything needs to be drilled. Hopefully Mr. Owner will come in soon and answer the questions. :hyper:
Thanks Daniel for that well written document on aerodynamics.
Because the USDM market is so geared towared drag racing, wings on FWD cars seem stupid or pointless to them.
Having spent more time in Japan than in the US, It is apparent that Americans do not take advantage of aero tuning while so much of the tuning in Japan revolves around it. Of all the times I went to the track in Japan, its was hard to find any cars without the benefit of aero tuning.
…I have learned much about FF aerodynamic tuning from Patrick himself, and added it to my own knowledge…
This is coming from a guy who majored in aerodynamics and physics. I think Ill be learning allot more from Daniel and hopefully be able to apply it in order to get the DA a little faster.
…we’re looking forward to tuning our way toward an ultimate goal of being [one of] the fastest DAs in the world.
I should add that we are pushing to make a fast DA 1.8L NA, which hypothetically could be the fastest DA. Although there are currently some very good tuners/drivers still pushing the DA chassis to the limits (Gotoracing, Edik S…). There was a guy in Japan who still holds a few lap records at CP Mines and TI Aida in a 1.8L DA…with lots of aero tuning.
The Hiro Spoiler is no longer being made, although I am in works and talking with some people in Japan to see about starting something up again. I will let everyone know whats Going on with this in the new year.
odds are its not a hiro wing… if u do find it, thats simply amazing. (especially in the dakotas) This is one of those pieces that tons of people will try to source but will have a very hard time finding. Since pictures of this car has been posted, there has been a huge market for it. If i “really” knew how to make a mold for something this would definately be it. (pass it on to password)
As digitalHorizon mentioned above, I brought 2 Hiro wings back from Japan and sold one maybe 3 years back. They are hard to find in Japan and theres maybe 5 or so in America??? (only 2 that I know of anyway).
The Hiro wing is attached with U brackets to the side of the trunk lid, so no drilling required.
Again, I might be able to get the Hiro wing re-issued and available for sale in America. If anyone is interested, you should email me so that I’ll have an idea as to the interest in this, and if its worth the effort.
Pat
I drive by the guys house almost eveyday i’ll take a pic and post it even if its not a “Hiro” wing it can still have downforce, Ect…? and anyway still makes your teg look like a JDM Honda integra
i know you’ve mentioned having the hiro wing re-issued in the states, but wasn’t the price kind of outrageous? I mean of course it doesnt matter when you’re building a race car, but how about us with daily drivers? If you could please remind me what the price was?
if the price is right i would be extremely interested in this spoiler. there are a lot of DA’s around cincinnati and i would like to be one of the only people to have this if it was possible. if you are able to run past another one anytime soon let me know and ill snatch it up. thanks.
This is a rare chance to get a discontinued Japanese Hiro Wing,
and the price will be affordable, I wouldnt bother if it was too expensive. It all depends on how many orders I can get for them to get made up. Ill have a better idea about pricing In Jan.
The more orders I get, the lower the price will be, so let me know who’s interested.
