Winged a dead deer. Front bumper damage.

Driving to work early one morning, I winged a dead deer in the middle of my lane. I had swerved to avoid it and ended up smacking the passenger side of the front bumper. The teg is still driveable, but the front bumper below the bumper light is broken off and the side of the bumper is torn off the mounting screws. Splash guards are toast. I’m glad the damage wasn’t more serious. First “accident” in 15 years.

I have full coverage on the car so it’s going in for repair hopefully this week. What sucks is that I’m going to have a brand new bumper, but the rest of the car really needs repainting. I’m going to see how much it will cost to repaint the entire car. Hopefully I can afford it. Wish me luck!

should of hit the deer and then sued the state for not cleaning up road kill on the highways. thats what my friend did at least in RI.
glad your okay

That sucks Neil, but at least you’ll get it all repaired. As for painting the whole car, that’s a tough road to go down. Some shops will quote you $500-$1000 to paint a car, other places will say $2000-$5000. That price difference isn’t just one place giving you a better deal, generally w/ paint and body work, you get what you pay for. It’s extremely difficult to repaint a car and get near OEM quality…

boo no bueno

ahh that sucks! someone backed up into my car this weekend. luckily it wasn’t the teg and only my prelude. still isn’t something fun to deal with. im going through the same thing with the paint decision.

If it’s ridiculous I might just do a cheapo MAACO or something. I think anything would beat the clear coat peeling all over the car. Right?

Yeah. Just research the maaco’s in the area. Some shops do nice work. The one local to me actually does really good work.

If you buy the cheapest, it’ll look like crap inside of a year. But, if you get one of their “higher” packages, I’ve seen some of those last 5-6 years and still look fine. My friend had a hatchback done in 03 with the 2nd best package they offered, and to this day, it still looks great. Just little imperfections from road debris. But the finish itself still looks quite nice.

Roger that. Thanks for the insight.

I agree, macco can do a good job as long as your pay for it.

that sucks Neil. any news if the insurance will pay for a new paint job?

Neil,

I sent you a non related email.

Rob

Stitch, I got your email. I’ll see what I can do but right now I’m not making any long term plans. I’ll explain in my reply.

My wife took the car to one repair place but after she told me how the guy treated her (basically saying that she was lying about the damage), I had her take it to another place. The second place was far superior with customer service and also suggested that I just have the roof painted and worry about painting the other places later one. The hood on the car is pretty bad, but there is still clear coat on it. The roof as areas of rust and no clear coat. So I think I’ll follow his advice and just paint the roof for now. It’ll be around $200 for that section. I’ll post some before/after pictures.

the location in Laurel, MD has a good reputation.

i had my DA painted at maaco after i rebuilt it from being totalled. i got the second highest paint job they offered and it looked great for a couple months. the paint seemed really thin and gets damaged super easily. if you decide to go the maaco route, make sure you do as much of your own prep work as possible. they dont do anything as far as prep work goes in my experience. good luck fixing her.

Torino should be done today! I can’t wait to see how he looks.

remember to post pics!

Meh the shop rejected the bumper that was provided by their supplier. Won’t be ready until Tuesday.

I got Torino back today. The paint is fantastic (given that only the front bumper, fender, and roof were painted). The bumper was missing one of the guides, so it’s not on properly yet, but I was able to take him to a shop to get some bushings replaced in the meantime. I’ll post pix when he gets home – hopefully this weekend.

Glad its fixed,IDK how many deer i just about hit in my car.
But just to ask,why a guy car??? lol JK

My car’s a boy as well… His name is Mr Toots.

Mine is called gold digger cause of all the money i got tied-up in it.
