wire is firing but cylinder is dead

hello my car is being stupid lol my 92 integra is only firing on 3 cylinders but when i take the plug out and lay it on the valve cover and start the car the plug and wire are firing fine but when i put it back in the engine the wire isint firing the plug like the cylinders dead is weird not sure what to make of it

Swap injectors and see if the cylinder fires. That will indicate a bad injector.

Do a compression test and make sure you’re getting good compression. The rings could be shot, or bent valves, etc.

Being that you’ve been having timing and other issues with the motor and previous owner, you might have a motor that is on its last legs and about to give out.

it has good compression and the cylinder is getting fuel its odd because there were a few times that the plug wasent sparking but then the rest of the time it would is there some kind of ground somewhere that would be giving me any issues that would affect that there were also 2 times when the car would not start at all but then we took the plug out and started the car and it started with the plug out of the engine then put it back in the engine and it ran fine for alittle while

Use periods and other punctuation dude, it will make it much easier to read what you’re saying.

What condition is the cap/rotor and wires in?

Could be bad wires, bad cap/rotor, or even ignition coil.

buy an HEI spark tester. you can get them for dirt cheap and will help diagnose spark issues in the future, as well as now.
under cylinder pressure, jumping the gap is a much more difficult task for your ignition system to perform than jumping that same plug gap in open atmosphere. to put it into perspective, that spark gap is comparable to 3 inches of gap under pressure. an HEI tester places a high level of resistance on the ignition system. it’s like a load test. you can probably find one for like 10 or 15$. it looks almost like a regular spark plug with an alligator clip at the end

wires, cap, rotor, and plugs are all brand new

doesn’t matter. get the HEI tester. you have to confirm the problem before you can fix it

now my car is only running on 2 cylinders hardly runs. if you touch the gas while its running it just dies

do a power balance to find out which 2 cylinders arent firing. then, remove the plugs in those cylinders and see if fuel is making it to the plugs.

1st and 4th cylinders are not firing and i just put brand new injectors on it and they are working

Shish, isn’t that what i said over two weeks ago? :stuck_out_tongue:

nope. sorry. op is going back to hei testing:danger:

Hush you! I just found the length of time (for the injectors to be examined) kinda funny.

:rimshot:

changed distributor car is running on all 4 cylinders again but still has a miss in it also changed map sensor and it helped abit also
