So I’m looking to get a wire tuck in the coming month, and was quoted $1300 for a FULL wire tuck, which includes fuel lines and brake lines being tucked, ABS deleted, battery (Odyssey) installed on the passenger firewall side, etc.
Good quote, bad quote? I thought they were like $600 for a full one but the way the shop explained it to me is that it’s $350 to pull the motor out, $350 to put it back in, clean the gunk off it, and $600 for the actual tuck and parts for the ABS delete, etc.
That sound like a reasonable price. I’ve heard alot of people saying alot of places will charge $500 - $600 for just the wire tuck and fusebox. I would just do it myself which i am but that’s just me. Pull your motor yourself to save some money and have them do the rest
You dont have to pull the motor to tuck the wires or clean it. I have done it plus friends of mine have done it with it in. I will post pic later if you like to see or just look at my build thread.
Yah that’s why they gotta pull the motor, for the brake and fuel lines. I don’t have the time to do it myself man, nor am I good with electrical stuff. Plus the shop is installing my turbo setup and the tune so I figure knock it out in one shot.
I know, I’m not fond of the figure myself, that’s why I’m asking on here what the rate is in other parts of the country etc. If anything I just will not get brake and fuel lines done up, save the 700 bucks and use it towards the tune and turbo install.
my brake was done all ready but i did do the fuel line with it in the car an i dont see why you have to pull the motor to do the brake line. So please tell me why that is? I do know it way eazier to do the brake line with the dash pulled tho

Keep the info coming though.
Thanks.

Are they pulling the motor for the turbo set-up? why don’t you see if it’ll be cheaper for the wire tuck if the motor is already out
It’s a ton of work so that price doesn’t sound too bad. that said, i’d never even consider letting someone else do something like a wire tuck on my ride.
What happens when you need to ohm a wire or find a short or something? you won’t even know where all your wires were run.
I won’t buy a car (any make or model) that has so much as an aftermarket alarm or stereo. I wouldn’t touch a car that has a wire tuck. I know i know “i’m keeping my da forever!!!” ok that thats cool, just something to think about if you ever do consider selling.
i did this in '04, and it was to make the engine bay look as clean/empty as possible. removed p/s, a/c, etc etc etc at the same time. (now thinking it was a bad idea)
but from my experience, it was a great learning opportunity to learn about relays, signal, common ground, and helped clear alot of wiring up.
recently in '09, i re-did my interior/engine/dash wiring, and pulled about 3lb’s of wiring out of the harness, and i understand alot more now. knowing what things do, what’s wired to what, and if something fails, what exactly to check for without wondering about certain wiring from here to there…
Yah, it is for looks. This car isn’t my daily driver so if I would have any issues I’m not stressed for time to diagnose it. Nor am I planning on selling, as much as that’s heard on here. I invested way too much time and money in this car to sell it and get a few grand for it.
You guys made some good points, especially being able to learn from it and it not being so hard from the threads I found online. At least this way if I do have an electrical issue in the future I will know where to start since I did the tuck and know where my wires are. Plus I save the cash.
I know someone who does tucks for better prices and quality work. He can send you pictures of his work. He is going to be doing mine after I take out the engine but he does not touch fuel or brake lines. His location is in Nj.
Considering there only a handful of people out there that understand wiring and electrical systems, I would make sure the people you are considering do. It is not hard to extend wires but when you have issues do they have the skills to troubleshoot and resolve them? 90% of the cars I see are hacked up and really scary.
$1300 at average shop rate of $50 is only 26 hours. Now take parts cost out of that is more like 20 hrs. How nice of a job can be done in 20-26 hours?
