wiring for amp?

hey guys i’m trying to figure out wich way to run my power wire from the battery to the back (for amp)… any suggestions? i was thinking about run it tru the pass. side front fender but don’t know were to go once I get to the hinges of the door(don’t want to leavit exposed) any suggestions???

I ran my power wire through the firewall in the engine compartment then through the steering column then under the carpet along side the driver door up under the backseats and to my amp. Man, what a run-on sentance. :ok: It took me about 30 min to do so and it doesnt even look tacky.

Yup I did the same pretty much!!

ok… let me go and try that…:ok:

ok… i dont see a way to bust tru that steering collumn… torino did you bust the rubber piece that is in the bottom???

ttt H E L P!!!

on the drivers side there is a big rubber grommet. take a metal coat hanger and straiten it and poke tru it. you should see it come through the inside by thre pedals. take some black tape and tape the power wire on the end of the coat hanger real tite.you might wanna spray some wd-40 or other luvbracant on the grommet and taped up part of wire for ease of pulling. now just pull it through. hope this helps. post with any pother questions

Thanks lilred… got it to go tru… no I’m wondering about something: runing my wire tru the firewall is safe? (please forgive my lack of knowledge; but if i don’t ask i won’t learn…) I’m saying i was thinking about the type of heat that this engines generate; I think my wire is like a 4 gauge but i was just wondering about any step that i would have to take to prevent any “accidents”(like a meltdown…) since this wire gonna be around the engine bay…,…

I believe the wire should be able to withstand a certain amount of heat. I have an 8 gauge and 4 gauge going thru my firewall (i know …should have run bigger wire instead) and the wire is still fine and dandy

thanks…

thru passenger side stock hole, down the kick panel, thru the carpet, stuffed between right rear seat and panel, under seat hinge, up between carpet and panel, connect to amp. about 30 minutes work.

thats how i did my previous system. now it goes from battery in trunk to amp. about 30 seconds work haha…

30m30s for all lol…

HTH

i went through the hole on drivers side and straight down the middle under the back seat i kicked it towards the drivers side though. didn’t know if their would be any induction into fuel pump and throw it off.

here that should help made by me btw

When running through the engine compartment, it is ALWAYS necessary to use a wire loom to protect the wire from abrasions and melting. Get the accordion style for functionality (it’s also cheap as **** and easy to work with). Also, make sure to use tie-wraps every 6-10" to secure the wire completely to anything solid (metal piping, brackets, etc…). This will prevent the wire from slipping over time and coming into contact with hot or moving pieces, which induces the real risk of FIRE.

Also, MAKE SURE TO FUSE THAT POWER WIRE, within 10" of the battery. Use a proper fuse for the length of wire and amount of current running through it. (read up on some tutorial sites to find the chart… I’m not at home and cannot remember the sites that have it). If you cannot find the charts, look at your amp(s), add up the fuse ratings, and subtract about 20%. That is the size fuse you should use at the battery!! (No, it won’t blow unless there’s a short, don’t worry).
ie: My amps use 2x40 A fuses, and 2x20 A fuses. I have two separate power cables running down my car, so for the big one (2 guage), I used a 60A fuse (amp rated at 80, so subtract roughly 20% = 60A). The other uses a 35A fuse (2x20=40 - ~20% = 35A). This is very cautions, yet never blows (even during SPL competitions).

Anyhow, hope this helps. BTW: always better safe than sorry. Use looming and fuses, and always secure your wires!!

thanks guys:thumbsup: a lot of information on this!!
