Wiring Help from Radiator Fan

Alright, so today when I got home I noticed my rad fan running after the car was off. Unusual since my car never runs hot what so ever.

I get to looking around and fine a wire run to what looks like a black relay box that seems like it used to be mounted somewhere in the bay. Can anyone shed some light as to what this particular box is?

It splices off the green plugs wire, that is about all the additional info I have.

Some pics would help. I would not normally be alarmed at hearing the radiator fan running while the car is off. A/C equipped G2’s have a very strange radiator fan system, two fans, multiple relays, a control module… There is an Oil Temperature Switch located on the back of the block and as far as I can tell from the Helms manual it’s main purpose is to determine if the fan(s) should run with the car OFF and the engine oil over a certain temp.

It doesn’t mean that your engine has overheated though, it’s not a sign of any danger. I can’t say for sure that your issue is something normal or not w/o doing troubleshooting, especially since you seem to have an oddball wire somewhere. But our cars were designed to run the fans after the engine is off if certain conditions are met.

Alright Colin, I’ll let you know where its it. I can’t get a photo now because of lighting conditions, but the rad fan closest to the Battery, has the Green and Beige Plugs, its the wire that is split to the green plug, leads to a black box ground relay it looks like. I’ll try to take a picture.

Are you saying that there is some non-stock wiring there? Like someone made some changes? There should be a stock relay in that area, then 2 more relays on the other side of the radiator.

No no no. Its a stock wire. I’ll take two photos showing you where this is located. Give me 15-minutes.

Here are the photos.

And

Does anyone know?

That’s your radiator fan relay.

Alright, noob question time. Where the hell do I mount it man?

Like can you show me where?

doesn’t really matter where, I’ve had all of that removed from my DA’s for years so I don’t even remember exactly where it goes.

Basically if you remove your battery and look around in that area between the battery, the back of the headlight and the side of the radiator - pretty much where it’s been dangling. You should be able to find something to zip tie it to or find a proper sized bolt and a hole you can thread into so you can bolt it down.

Maybe someone has a photo of the exact stock location for you.

The wires in mine, including those two clips, are wrapped up in the space between the frame behind the headlights, the battery tray, and the fan itself. There should be a gap in there that all the wires will fit into. The relay has a zip tie attached to that hole which is fastened to the other wires. My battery was already out, so I took a photo of the location for you:

Thanks man.

I’m saving this pic and going out to do it tomorrow, just making sure it was okay in being the way it was, I might do some nifty relocating or tucking with it.
