have a charging system test performed. the headlights draw a lot of current. also, the idle will fluctuate when you hit the brakes. it’s perfectly normal. the booster uses vacuum from the engine. that lowers idle. the ecm sees the lower idle and opens up the iac to bring it up
if you are getting code 17… annd your speedometer is working reach down to where the VSS is located and give the speedo cable a push… it has tabs at the end and if not seated firmly can have a tendency to pop loose and throw that code… usuallywhile driving or downshifting.
as far as your lights dimming and flickering & everything else you have described, I’d bet dimes to dollars that is your alternator starting to go. easy test is check the voltage with car running with a multimeter… should charge at 14.3 volts steady right after you turn it over. if you see alot of fluxuation in the reading or it is significantly less then 14 volts that would indicate a charging issue.
you can also check the battery for slow drain with the car off by leaving the multimmeter on it. should hold steady wth the key off at 12.7 volts or so depending on the battery. you may see it drain a tiny bit over time if you have a security system, but not enough to cause the issue s you are seeing.
if battery drains fast you may have a battery on the way out as well.
Regardless your description of the issue sounds liek an alternator issue. I have seen those same types of symptoms across just about every honda car I have ever owned when the alternator was going out…
how long do i test the battery while everything is off? to see if theres something still stays on i have a alarm system in my car
aftermarket oil pressure hooked to ignition switch in the radio system not soldered but heatshrinked i dont have soldier or heat gun also im running hid lights in my car with yellow fog on all the time at nights thank you ill test it again to double check ill test the battery at least 2 hrs with everything off
EDIT: i ve tested them out few minutes ago the result with everything off its showing 12.85 volts and then with engine running on the battery its showing BETWEEN 15.03-1.80 :uhoh: when i jumped on radiator support it would just drop to 1.80 lol
problem is not likely a parasitic drain. if it were, you’d have trouble starting in the morning. but just so you know, to test for a draw, you want to disconnect the positive battery terminal and run the DVOM in series between the positive battery terminal and positive battery post. set the DVOM to read amperage and range it to mA. after about 10 minutes, without opening any doors or arming/disarming, current draw should be less than .05amps or 50mA.
your headlights are probably drawing a lot of current. obviously the headlights are on when you hit the brakes if you noticed the cluster lights dimming.
that’s probably your whole problem. if you want to check current draw of the headlights, you’ll need an ammeter, if your DVOM isn’t capable. either that or you have a bad ground(s). check/clean all major grounds. transmission to chassis, chassis to battery, and both terminals and posts.
you should also get the vss issue sorted. the ecm uses vss as an input for several functions. what’s going on with it?
Holy shit whats DVOM and how do i check the current? what is ammeter? same as voltmeter or multimeter?
DVOM=Digital Volt Ohm Meter (same as multimeter)
ammeter is used specifically to test amperage. i believe most DVOM’s can read only up to about 10amps safely without blowing the internal fuse.
here is a great little pdf to get your feet wet on some basic principals and testing procedures:

thank you ill start reading it later im focusing on my suspension right now cause i changed the whole 4 shocks with coilovers from parts car cause rears blown its fixed but the top mount on front passenger is toasted ill have to change that out lastnight i test drove it it scared the crap out of me when i hit shitty road bumps on atkinson st steering wheel shakes and when i turn to the right its fine til i floored it it pulls to right even harder :uhoh: hope top mount is only one problem
passenger front is finished gotta do the driver side but that can wait later

with voltage jumping all over like that combined with it getting worse when you “jump” on the radiator support… 1) sounds like you need to check the ground cables between the valve cover a& radiator support and make sure it is getting clean contact… there are actually 2 grounds that connect in that area check em both. 2) you may indeed have a alternator issue, more specifically a voltage regulator issue if it jumps all over like that. pull the old one out & get it tested at an oreilly’s or local parts shop.
Last bit of advice… SLOW DOWN!!! fix one issue at a time before ya go and worry about other things like shocks, or brakes etc… Honestly I would limit how much I drove that vehicle until you resolve the electrical issues. Last thing you want is to get stuck miles from home with a burnt alternator… trust me I speak from experience in that realm ( my old G1 prelude left me stranded a few times).
Welfare stop Scaring him with acronyms LOL… :giggle:
yea true gotta slow down but i cant LOL
the voltage would never drop to 1.xx. your battery voltage is far above that. you must have performed your testing incorrectly. read the pdf. if you don’t understand it, re-read it until you do.
for your suspension issue(s), you’ll need an alignment anyways, so have them take a look through everything. they should be doing that anyways
just did the DIY grounds from battery to chassis, tranny, valve cover, alternator, intake manifold, iacv, throttlebody and distributor it helps smooth shifting its so smooth havent noticed if it runs better but i think it does, brighter domelight during the day havent tested the headlight to see if its any brighter but i will tonight when its dark out there and i still need to take the alternator out to get it tested though how did u take alternator out? i took my cv out to do that lol its easier im used to taking suspension apart to get cvs out alot. after i got ground on i forgot to take cv and alternator out while i was working on driverside strut and coilover dammit
its getting there finally
ya just gotta get in there and loosen the pivot bolt & the lock down bolt & remove the belt.
Alternator isn’t too bad to get to, just do not get much movement range with any wrench so it can be a little tedious. do the locking bolt first. the locking bolt will allow you to push the alternator towards the engine and slip the belt off. then remove the pivot bolt and boom done.
you can just get a charging system test performed on vehicle. that would be the easiest solution
thank guys ill get it tested
before i did grounds on everything distributor alternator intake manifold which fixed my light dimming and really low idle problem, and last month i let the clutch go too fast and i stalled it at traffic light which is something fell loose or i broke something bogs at low idle never had this problem till today in the rain it bogs like crazy at low rpms it pulls back up when i let go of gas then try to accelerate it runs but what could this be? bad spark plugs? wires got wet from some connection fell off last month when i stalled the car or something? bad clutch? i know it slips once or twice when i get on it really hard lol i dont think it causes the low rpm bogging
check timing.
Did run just fine today on way to church i guess it just doesnt like to run in the rain got a flat tire ugh lol weird when drivers side is flat and it pulls to right did same thing in my old blue da
The rim was cracked so i replaced them with another sets of wheels and kept the tires looks alot better idk what the problem was, it didnt bog on me so i guess it doesnt like rain lol is there anything water could cause bogging?
yup it doesnt like rain at all dammit, we had a light rain not heavy but… it bogs again:argh:
