Hey guys so as the title says I’m having a conflict on what I should do. My friend is selling a b20z2 for super cheap. I’m really considering swapping it into my 91 integra. My conflict is that the integra is all original and stock LS Special. Still has the dealer receipt and title, and it was garaged and babied. I bought it from the original owner. The b18a1 has 230k, but doesn’t smoke or leak a drop of anything. All I want it a spirited daily driver. From what I have read on this forum, the b20 literally drops right in. So would you mess with an all original car or leave it? I just don’t want the Honda gods to smite me… :uhoh: Haha anyway thanks in advance!
Also, I would like to order an ECU from Phearable with a basemap for some planned bolt ons (I/H/E maybe headwork), but they only sell obd1 ECUs. My integra is obd0. The engine (b20z2) would be OBD2. So, how do I basically get all this to meet in the middle at obd1? Is it as simple as getting an obd1 ECU, getting an obd1 conversion harness, and an obd1 distributor? I’ve done a lot of searching on here.
Another question- what harness would I get exactly? Would it be obd0 -> obd1? Thanks again!
how many miles are in the B20z? that be my first question. In my opinion id do it to get that spirited daily your looking for. You got the comfort and features of a LS special why not give it a little more umph under the hood to make it a tiny bit more fun. As for the swap your going to need to go OBD1 minimum. all you need it a OBD1 ecu, either a PR4 or P74 i believe, and the jumper harness for the ecu and . other than that your pretty much set, being that your pulling the motor might be a nice time to give the ole clutch an update as well. thats at least my two cents, my plan is to tear my crudy B18A1 out make a nice little LSV set up
I am an original owner of a 91 LSS too, I swapped my original B18 for a B16. I just kept my original B18, A1 and ECU Incase I want to make it all original again.
Every once in a while, while “rowing” my ACT equipped, 5-spd, DA9 through bumper-to-bumper grid-lock (Vancouver, BC being rated one of the worst cities in North America for traffic congestion), I ponder the feasiblity of an automatic, air conditioned DB1 with a B20 conversion. Enough extra bottom to compensate for the slush box/AC while getting around downtown? Simply rhetorical at this point . . .
I’d rather have a newer b18b in my car that’s what I swapped into my old db1 along with innovative mounts and a exeddy stg1 clutch k&n drop in filter and a 3in pipe out the bottom of the airbox sounded great and I got 35mpg
You wouldn’t perhaps have a photo, or link, about that 3" pipe mod? Thanks.
Thanks for all the replies guys! The b20 has a fresh rebuilt head with less than 5000 miles on it. It was swapped into a CR-V for my friend’s mom. She blew the head gasket. He said I could have it for 200. Which, considering that’s less than a quality cold air intake, I think it may be worth it haha. The plan would be to get it, slowly order some aftermarket goodies for it (and my car) then drop it in. I’ve researched a TON and it seems like it will literally drop in, and technically my b18 ecu will run it and everything. Of course I would probably get all my obd1 conversion stuff gathered before the swap. So on a related note, what is the proper way to store an engine? Haha
@2ndJenn- So you didn’t regret doing a swap? I’m a sucker for originality.
This was my old build thread back in the day it has a few tips in there, I don’t have access to my old photo bucket
Nice man, that was a really in depth thread! How did you like the skunk2 coilovers? I’ve been eyeing some Tein Street basis for mine…no way in hell I’m doing springs without replacing struts, and no way I’m doing cheaply made coilovers either, so I figure for about $550 for the Teins, that’s the price of new springs and struts anyway.
It just really stinks because it’s my only car, so it will be really difficult to sort out when to do the major bits…I can carpool to work but we’ll see. Again, thanks for the tips guys.

The only thing I regret is the 8 lb clutch masters flywheel. It will be replaced by a Exedy 10 lb unit on the the next teardown. B16A was original in the XSi!
Haha nice. And that’s right, I forgot that the b16a was in the XSi. I probably couldn’t afford one though haha. I’m getting the b20 for dirt cheap. I suppose that because I don’t have an XSi, I don’t have an excuse to keep originality haha. It’s just an LS, albeit an immaculate one. And also 2ndJenn, was the regret the brand or the weight?
My first set of coil overs on my da where tein basics, do not get them if you want to ride low, they bounced hard, I got the s2 pro s coil overs shortly after and they road like a dream. Glad you liked the thread I had big plans for that db1 before I deployed, sold it to a friend to help out with a ride was supposed to sell it back to me if he ever got rid of it and while I was in the Stan he traded it for some busted a$$ civic
… SMH, we ain’t friends no more. But yeah hope it helps lmk if you have any other questions.
