Name brand stainless steel exhaust system in Maryland / Virginia area

Make offer. Need soonest. I don’t want to have to put another crappy mild-steel one on. Shipping okay dependent on price. Needs to fit on a 1991 Integra.

You could always opt for an SS system from www.kteller.com or www.vrsexhaust.com and have a local place put it together. But obviously that’s a bit more work than just buying a complete bolt-on setup. Good luck Neil!

Hey Colin, I know. I just don’t trust the muffler shops here. The welds I’ve seen so far on aluminized steel just makes me cringe. Then I have to worry about if the welds will get rusted out in the winters here, which would make the custom setup useless.
…Then I have to worry about if the welds will get rusted out in the winters here, which would make the custom setup useless.
The welds on SS exhausts typically rust long b/f the exhaust pipes, because the wire used for the welding is not as rust resistant as the steel the pipes are made of. This includes the factory welds.

The steel used on a typical SS exhaust is not 100% stainless either, its just a little more rust resistant than a conventional exhaust. If your winters are like mine, a SS exhaust will rust.

I bought a cheap SS exhaust on ebay two years ago (not that I expected it to last for the price I paid, but it was the cheapest way to get the car on the road at the time), and that is exactly what happened. The welds at the muffler, and the inner perforated pipe disintegrated after two Wisconsin winters, and I hardly drove the car (!). I expected that, but not as quickly. To make things worse, b/c the welds holding the inner pipe of the muffler gave out, I had to replace the muffler, not just a couple welds.

Btw, same thing happened on an OEM SS exhaust on a Toyota owned by a friend, albeit after about 15 years. Welds gave out, and had to be redone. The factory pipes and muffler on her car are still good after now 20 years, but welds were redone twice in the last 5~6, in several places.

I don’t really want to dump $550 on a new system either! For the eBay SS ones, I’m concerned about fitment.
…For the eBay SS ones, I’m concerned about fitment.
It fit well enough, not perfect, about what I expected for less than $200.

I don’t think the cheaper SS exhausts are any better than the aluminized ones. Not in this weather. You can put exhaust joint compound on the welds, but I have no idea how that works over time.

I knew what I was buying, so I can’t really say I feel let down. At the time, I was not sure the car would ever run right again, in which case I did not want to waste money on a good exhaust. A friend of mine has an ebay SS exhaust on a different car, and his is still good going on the 5th winter, but - they DO rust. After mine disintegrated at the muffler, we took a close look, and his welds were all solid - rusted, but no sign of any breaks or leaks.

Something else to consider is the gauge of the SS metal is thinner, so the exhaust is louder. I don’t mean the muffler is any louder than a comparable brand name muffler, the pipes the, selves resonate with the engine exhaust.

Is there even a brand-name exhaust still made for this car??

I was looking at the Tanabe Medallion Touring. But yeah, $550. The Mrs.’ teg could also use a new exhaust as well. The welds didn’t hold up in the winter here.

There’s an RSR exhaust on an Integra in Baltimore. I asked to see if he’ll part with it

I just emailed you on two options that are at or below your max budget.
