Hey guys I own a 90 integra gs sadan…so I recently bought a master cylinder and brakeboster because I was getting them at a really good price (rebuilt). So one of my friends carried me by his mechanic to do the swap. Left for 3 hours for something to eat and came back…nothing has been done to my car, he said its alot of work come back tomorrow. As I jumped into the car first thing I felt was a really stiff brake pedal. Im like ok he messed with the brakeboster…told him about it and he bitched at me and he said he just adjusted the brake pedal…didnt really make any sense but since I was in a good mood and changing the part I was like what the heck…going on the free way I couldn’t even pass 40 km…i was like what the hell…rp m is all in the 3.5’s. something is definitely wrong…pull to the shoulder and there is smoke everywhere you could literally cook something on my rotors all four were like that…i swear my car was about to be in flames…let them cool off and tried to return to the shop travelled maybe 1 km and the car couldnt move the pedal was hard as ice and I didn’t want to risk forcing the engine anymore…toed the car and lets just say the mechanic didn’t just hear my mouth.
I swear some people call themselves mechanics but yet have no idea what they are doing.
Maybe he adjusted the emergency brake too tight. When I sold my first integra the kid test drove it for 5 minutes with the e-brake on and brought it back smoking.
idk if he just wasn’t much into cars (or knew how to drive period) but i could definitely tell wen the e-brake was on. i just turned 16 last Oct. some people… haha
wow. just wow. that would really suck. you sell your beloved car to someone then they do that. that would make me pretty mad, but nothing you could really do about it i guess
That is a common result when a brake booster is improperly adjusted. There is a very slim adjustment point, and usually should not be touched.
If this is adjusted wrong (ie: adjusted the pedal height) will result in too much pressure building up in the lines causing a very hard pedal and locking up the brakes without pressing them.
If this happens again, just use a 10mm and a rag and open the bleeder valve and this will relieve pressure to the calipers therefore releasing them…You will have to do this a few times until u get to your destination, but will save the cost of a tow truck!
Basically your booster needs to be re-adjusted. I would just replace it with the new one and call it a day. You can do this your self and the hand of a buddy!
