Hey Guys,
First let me say I have been searching and reading for about a week now on suspension upgrades and have learned quite a bit.
Obviously, I have been searching because I want to upgrade my suspension.
So If you guys can give you your opinion on DC sports bars I would appreciate it.
I just want a better handling daily driver car. I dont race or plan to, I dont care for high hp or anything like. Just a better car all around then what came out of the factory and specially now that its so old. Something more predictable, responsive, neutral and not harsh.
Currently I have Skunk2 Coilovers and Tokico blues. I hate it. It was a impluse buy to replace the broken springs and shot sturts.
I will upgrade to Koni yellows and keep the coils.
I also am upgrading all the bushings(es) and getting a 19 mm ST rear sway bar. Which I want to use with the spoon RLTB from an EG. I have not yet decided on which strut bars to use.
But before I purchase all that I want to know if the DC bars i.e. front strut, rear strut upper and lower tie bars are worth looking into as I am restoring the car on a budget. I dont mind spending more money if it will be benifcial going with another brand that produces a higher quailty and better performing product.
I also have 16x7 rota grids that I want to put a good set of dry/wet weather tires on. If you can recommend a good size tire that would be great too. If not I will just search some more.
So if you can just offer me some facts and opinions on DC please. I would really be grateful.
they are crap. They are for nothing but looks. They have holes drilled through them which takes away from the strength of the bar. They flex a lot too. I would recommend something more solid.
for your tires, either go with Toyo Proxes FZ-4 for a good all weather tire. they also have a good amount grip incase you ever did do a little racing. Proxes 4 however is a much more performance oriented tire and only works well during favorable conditions. as far as size goes, i’d go with 205/45-16 , thats what i’ve got on my 5Zigen FN01R-C’s (16x7) and it works well. if you want something a little more low profile, go 40 series. less sidewall to flex, thus (just ever so slightly, realistically you probably wont notice a difference but) improving handling. my friend has a set of Kumho Supra Ecsta rubbers on his 17" Konig Trouble wheels and he says that those tires have the best traction of any tires he’s ever owned. they are a bit pricey though. Maybe the Nitto 555’s i dont know much about them though so don’t base anything on that, i’m just throwing another option out there.
as for strut bars, some people on here have been lucking out with decent bar kits on ebay. cheapie’s that do pretty well and dont flex much (at least dont show signs of it) DC Sports bars are junk, i’d say maybe Skunk2 or something equivalent. i dont have any strut bars either but i’m in no hurry just yet. just do a little “googling” and you should find a decent strut bar set for your car. just anything that has holes or anything to that effect is a waste of your money and the company’s time and effort because any bar that isn’t solid at all portions, is a bar that has serious weak spots. a titanium bar kit would be good, can’t bend or break that shit. just most can’t afford it either, usually need it custom made etc.
Thanks you guys. This is very helpful. Does anybody know if the front sturt bars form other hondas fit the DA? i.e EG OR DC…cause if so then I will do spoon fron strut and rear lower tie bar and do the whole EM racing c pillar, strut and tire bar and find a trunk brace. I am thinking of maybe down the road looking into the FULL RACE Traction bar too but we will see since the roads in IL are all shit from potholes and what not due to the nasty winters here.
Inked up: I live right behind Gregs Landing on Townline. I play Golf at the golf course all the time. Its a great course. She shouldnt have moved the property there is sky rocketing like crazy. She would made out like gangbusters.
Thanks guys and if anyone else has anything other options, opinions, facts…keep em coming.
My mom’s husband was there golfing with some buddies a few months ago and he went to see what the houses were selling for. The property value had gone up almost 200 grand since they moved a few years ago.
