ys1 clutch compatibility

I am looking into a ys1 trans and noticed that none of my clutch suppliers list a clutch for a ys1 trans. So my question is if anyone knows if the clutch for one of the usdm cars will work with a ys1. It will be bolting to an ls vtec so i will be using the a b18 flywheel but not sure if i will have to order a jdm style clutch.

The JDM transmissions use the same clutch as the 90-91 USDM Integra.

cool thanks

Sean, that’s not correct.

89-91 B Series transmissions (country of origin is irrelevant) all use the 90-91 Integra style clutch disk (small diameter)
92+ B series transmissions (country of origin is irrelevant) all use the 92+ Integra style clutch disk (large diameter)

Scott, you’ll want to order your clutch for a 92-93 Integra.

How much of a difference is there in diameter?

I believe it’s about 1mm. There’s a thread which listed it, and I believe if you look up the specs on Exedy’s website they list that dimensional difference, I think that’s where I found it previously. But really, the amount isn’t important, there’s a difference and the difference is significant enough to make the parts not interchangeable.

So the ys1 is from the 92-93 jdm integra i assume. That is good to know.

not only is the diamter off but the splines in the shaft are different so a 91 clutch wont fit into a92 shaft

I should have been more specific.

But yes you were right, I had a brainfart.

If your vendor doesn’t list a clutch for a YS1 ('92-93 usdm LS/RS/GS/GS-R) trans, you need to look at another vendor.

I know for sure Exedy offer clutch kits for both small and big spline cable transmissions.

That is incorrect. YS1’s came on ALL B series powered 92-93 Integras regardless of country of origin. Additionally there are 3 different versions of the “YS1”. All of this stuff has been covered a billion times. :search:

Do you have proof of this? It’s a common mistake for people to say “they have a different number of splines” or the “spline size is different”. These are incorrect statements. According to the clutch disk specs I’ve seen the number of splines are the same for 89-91 and 92+ input shafts and that is the diameter of the shaft which is the difference.

There goes Colin, kickin knowledge!

I believe the spline count to be the same also.
