1/4 Racing Tips

ok, since a bunch of member are heading to the track from around my way (and i’m sure there are people elsewhere), i thought we could have a resource section for what to do and what not to do at the track. i know i wish i could have known more when i went my first time.

I wanted to start this before i head out for the night, but i’ll post some up tomorrow night when i get off work

First time with this car and first time at a track in 10 years. Drove to the track the same way I went to the line. Tires at 35psi. This is a no no. Launched at 3500 and basically sat there spinning. Spun through first and second. Ran a 16.9 at like 86mph. Only cosilation was I outran the v8 Camaro in the other lane. He spun so bad he only ran 17.9.
Got rained out so that was the only run I got. Sometimes life just SUCKS!!! Also last race of the season so now I gotta wait til next season to run again.

rev it up high, to like 5k, and slowly let out the clutch. DO NOT SPIN THE TIRES. Launch it like you would an awd car. I pulled numerous 2.21’s- 2.26’s all day with this technique. Car ran 15.57@ 87.1 with i/h/e

damn, forgot all about this thread. ok. i guess i can get started now.

PREPARATION
take whatever you can out of the car. (may not be much, but every little bit helps)

  • Rear seats,

  • spare tire,

  • jack,

  • tools,

  • front pass seat,

  • whatever you have in the car that is not needed to make the car drive down the track.

  • if you take all that out, you might be lookin at 50 pounds if you are lucky.

  • with my only my rear seats out and no cargo or anything else in the car, my 93 LS weighed in at 2445lbs w/o me in it

Fuel amount - try to have less than a 1/4 of a tank, i’m not sure how much each gallon of fuel wieghs but i want to say it is like 3-5lbs

WHEELS
Rim Size - you dont want to go to the track with huge heavy rims. if you can find some 14x6 steelies ( i believe our stock steel rims were 14x6) use them on the front with some 215 or 225 40 profiles (you want the width for the traction so you can grab the track and lauch a little higher) and get 2 13" steelies for the back with small tires (another form of weight reduction)
Tire Pressure- Lower the front, keep them high in the back. It depends on many things, but a good place to start from is around 27. i think i’m usually at 23-25 for my runs

ENGINE

  • Try to let the engine cool off. less heat in the engine bay surrounding your intake.

  • Helps to change your oil, filter with a lower viscosity.

  • Make sure your spark plugs and wires are good to go and properly gapped.

  • If you have a short ram intake, might want to take out the pass headlight to get cooler air into the filter/pipe

i’ll write some more up a little later about staging, launching, shifting, and anything else i can think of

cisco steelies are 14x5.5…also good luck fitting 215-225 on them lol

I’m about 99% sure they are 5.5, as are stock integra wheels taht are 14inch…This being because my bmw rims were .5 inch bigger and they are 14x6

yeah, i guess 225 might be a little big haha. but i remember hearing that civic steelies are thinner than integra steelies, anyone know any info???

wouldnt know…maybe its listed on one of those wheel weight web sites.

In between races put your cold beer on the intake, whilst striking a pose for the ladies by your front fender.

But in all seriousness, which is hard for me, try getting an MSD 2-step. Just make sure you install a kill switch so you don’t accidentally hit it while showing off to said ladies.

For some of the newbies… you might want to explain the lights- when to leave etc.

My first time was a nightmare.

ps. shut up francisco hahah

anybody got any helpful tips on ‘powerlaunching’?

Bump***
love the tips, looking for more tips and also Big no no’s… etc, would love to read more on it! :burnout:
Thanx- Kelli

I have a 90 RS and I have the 14 inch steel duds on the front and some 15 inch GSR rims on the back i let the tire pressure out in the front to about 18 psi and with the back seats out and the spare tire and jack still in and me weighing 195. I launch at 3600 rpm and I just dump the clutch I don’t “feather” it and I shift at 6600 rpm and I pull off 15.2 's at 89.01 mph with 2.195 60 foot times. My car had 185,000 miles on it Bosh dual tip spark plugs MSD spark plug wires, no AEM cold air intake(which is a waste ) in my opinion. I took the resonator from underneath the stock air box and instead of using air duct i used four inch pvc pipe with a 90 degree elbow pointed to the front of the car. It gets more air and is mors sturdy. At the times I ran in my car I was killing some 98 civics at the track.

yes. civic steelies are thinner than integra steelies

civic - 14x5
integra - 14x5.5

thank you. always wondered about that.

So do you think it would make a difference as to which steelie to use for the track? 5 or 5.5. 5 being somewhat lighter, but the 5.5 is wider for more traction…? lol

Launching is fun!

5.5 if you use the whole rim for a wide tire.
