18g turbo manifold

the manifold for 18g greddy really sucks in my experience. the threads on it is weak…? I tried putting in new studs and the bolt won’t tighten anymore.

I want to know what manifold will fit and what kind i should get. I planning to push up to 10psi and have no a/c and power steering. I also don’t like the style of using studs because it’s hard to take out the turbo unless I take out the manifold itself. planning to spend maybe no more than 300 on a manifold.

plan to upgrade turbo garrett, maybe gt28…

No too many manifold will fit that 18G flange, I believe it’s a t/3.
Great little turbo though.
Which stud are you trying to replace? Did you get the right pitch thread on the replacement stud? Is it the studs on the elbow?
I would suggest that you sell the manifold, elbow and turbo to someone that wants to retain their AC/PS and get a new kit altogether, it would be easier in the long run.

Do not quote me on this, but I think the Greddy 18G turbo is slightly different then most 18G’s and their 18G and manifold is actually a T25 flange. Can you measure the distance between the centre of the bolt hole to and adjacent one?

i’ll measure once my manifold brakes apart again which i hope it doesn’t. I like this turbo but it’s not the power i want. I also like it with the downpipe and traction bar don’t touch and the piping for the intercooler fits. I worry that if i get a whole new turbo set-up, the traction bar will be problem and will be in the to-do list to buy traction bar. I will buy everything piece by piece but i want to start off with the manifold and what kinda of manifold that can handle up to 10 psi with no cracks. my friend told me about custom but I want to have more choices and ideas of which is good for me.

Tchleung is right… dafter some searching…

" yea this turbo is good for 400hp easy and can get a car into the 10 second range…its actually a t25 flange and you have to get a t25 to t3 adapter like i did from http://www.MC-MOTORSPORTS.com …they sell on ebay and its only $55 shipped and it bellows down with a smoth transition and its a quality part…you have to run studs out of each side of the adapter and bolt your turbo to the t25 side and then bolt the other end to your manifold and no a cast manifold does not work, you have to use a manifold you can run studs through the flange and use nuts on it…as for the manifold i got the sls ramhorn from hondatech sponsor seller PSI2HI on here and its really nice…u should be able to push the turbo to its max on your setup and get over 400hp easy if you tune it right…and also make sure you run the vacuum lines to the top and bottom port on your external wg because it stabalizes the boost so much better

stock b16 greddy 18g external wg-350 hp and 252 tq- best so far 11.303 @123.89mph, 1.730 60ft"

Hope this helps.

oh wow. never knew about this. great help guys and thanks for the thread db2

the 18g is a easy 400hp turbo once converted to external wastegate. if you want a manifold i would like at a spoolin log with a t25 flange and a 35mm wastegate. also you wont get good numbers with 10psi on that turbo it doesn’t wake up until you past 12 or so psi. keep the mitsi based turbo dont waste the cash on the on the gt28

but the wastegate is internal…actuator or something for greddy. this turbo boosts up to 10psi with no boost controller. what you spooling log?

So what did you decide to do?

well i raised my car up a bit more so my exhaust dont catch any bumps where it will break my manifold again and my manifold havent break yet so i’m happy about it. but right now i’m focused getting my chipped ecu and conversion harness for my car so i can go tune it. i stick with thatblkguy’s plan after i get my tuning over with. what do i do with the internal wastegate if i have a manifold with a wastegate on it?..if i were to get it though
