thanks Steve I saved your number in case I need you. new rods came in today.waiting on crank.
block back from the machine shop.,fresh hone.decked.hot tanked.
this is my helper =]
Did they paint the block? looks so since, the coolant bolt is also “aluminum” color.
It’s pretty common these days. Most popular paint is Eastwood Alumablast. Personally I don’t like the look (looks good in photos but looks fake in person). IMO there’s nothing better than new oem cast metal. There are a couple methods I like which get close to that look, or put some flare into it though.
If I was building a block I want it to look as original as possible.
Matty, check J’s car for OEM and DAve’s car for OEM + flare
My block ended up being somewhere in the middle of theirs I would say. Although still of a lesser overall success due to the fact that it’s an original (OLD) block. Either way, you’ve got some good resources for this sorta stuff so don’t hesitate to use 'em…
Oh don’t worry, I will definitely use them
i do have to agree it looks fake in person. i didn’t want it shiny.just plain clean and nice.
Sounds like it would look ghetto, but “chrome” (or silver) spray paint, when applied properly, works wonders for rough cast aluminum parts. I’ve found that it’s pretty much the only way to get rid of (mask) oxidation and other stains and still retain the proper cast finish. It’s slightly brighter than straight out of the mold but doesn’t look polished at all and to the average joe just looks like clean, bare, aluminum.
sick great job so far wish i hada db2
machine shops love to paint blocks black for some reason.
Everything looks awesome. wax would work wonders on that paint.
engine bay shave
still in process.
new crankshaft
builds looking really good man, glad to see another person taking the time to do things right. i hope youre measruing and double checking your clearance on that motor. good luck with the build.
Thanks.I deff doing that. I’m probably getting a new clutch and flywheel since its already apart.and changing the timing belt, water pump, header, oil pan.so I know I replaced everything.
lookin good.
here are some new updates. got the bearings and crank in.lubed everything up. waiting on my money to clear so they can ship me the full gasket set and oil pump. i got a new oil pan local. on to the pics.
Dzamn. doing all that in the parking lot? that is admirable.
i suspect the body will receive some love as well. that dr. side door looks like it’s been replaced/repainted. maybe it was just the light.
regardless, the efforts are definitely commendable.
i think imma subscribe to this one
keep it up and keep us posted
yea i live in apartments. the door and fender have been replaced. after the engine is done then its the outside.
