has anybody used this 1g dsm smic with low boost (6-8 psi) ?
i have one not sure if i want to use it ? the inlet and outlet is small. i also wanted to put a cooling fan and relocate it and hide it to the side of bumper (stealth mode) http://forums.g2ic.com/images/imported/2008/04/1.jpg[/img]"]http://
i was gonna use one that my friend gave me from his dsm, but eventually picked up a fmic for a good price. it’ll do the job, better than having no ic at all. should be just fine for low boost, just put it in a well ventilated area or get air to it.
I was thinking of doing this, similar to the top photo. However, I was going to cut the fender well a bit more, and brace it of course. Then put a small rad fan on it. Have it come on with a thermal switch set at a low temp. I guess it would be ok for a stealth, low boost setup, but the work you would have to do to get it functional, may not be worth it,
Sidenote: I have yet to get away from NA, and have thought about different setups, including a turbo mounted farther down on the exhaust, like just behind the engine. Not that it would be worth it either.

that sounds like a good idea, seeing that the temperature of the turbo and compressor will be much lower. Go for it
this would kick ass with the 91 bumper type!!!
depending on if you aren’t using the lower vents on the left and right for break cooling, you could concentrate air to the small intercooler

The lower temps do not help a turbo… the lower temps means lower gas velocities which will mean later spool of the turbo. People point to the STS turbo systems for car like the Camaro, but the Camaro also has more exhaust flow than our little engine, so they can get away with the rear mounted turbo… not to mention the amount of fabrication involved in going it on your own…
BUT… since I know operator IRL… NONE of this will phase him a bit and he will make it work and make it work beautifully

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I may just do a jy build to see if its worth it or not. I know of a place with a 2wd eclipse 1g with turbo. That would run if I had not snagged the injectors for my dad’s tsi a while back. May grab all the stuff off of it, and patch together something. Even water cool the turbo with a heater core from a 78 Pontiac. I really need to get out more often.
Oh ya dfw, next meet let’s talk about the tri bar some more. I want to get v2 started soon.
You have all the know how to make just about anything work… a SMIC would be AWESOME for me… but I would want a bigger opening feeding it… time to fab up the Porsche turbo style front end…
i dunno, i just dont see the smic worth it seeing how your going to most likely upgrade to a bigger and more bad set up so why spend twice as much on an intercooler when you can just do it right the first time…just my .02.
Oh yeah, does that eclipse have the coolant lines on that turbo still? I need em
