Is there anyone hitting close to 300 whp without the help of VTEC? All the buils I see that are up in the numbers have a VTEC head or motor. If so what would you reccomend for me in a turbo that will get me close w/o vtec, and what tuning should I use? thanks.
There’s plenty of people that make 300whp without VTEC. However, I wouldn’t do it without internals. I would go with forged pistons and rods and a decent size turbo and it shouldn’t be a problem.
Thx. I plan on going with this company for a bottom end. 3k dollars for a sleeved, all forged internal, blueprinted, balanced. well heres the link tell me if thats a good idea. Build to handle 45lbs or 750hp. they do boring to.

and a short vid.
Pistons, Rods and if you can afford it, head work. Sleeves are overkill for a 300hp setup but ERL is the place to get it done.
what would be a safe amount of boost to run with a stock sleeve, forged rods, pistons, and valvetrain? of course theres alot more but arent they the parts that fail under stress?
A lot of people on Honda-Tech make 400+ whp on stock sleeves and high boost. If the car is tuned well then sleeves shouldn’t just fail under stress. Sleeves fail due to large pinpointed loads and stresses caused by detonation.
Ahhhh, so does anyone wanna reccomend a good turbo and all the internal work needed to get me to 350whp safely? i know about some stuff but i dont wanna waste money on stuff thats not essential.
i know of a man that made over 700hp with a stock honda block. he just had the right tune!
it really all depends on how much $$ you want to spend, if you want to keep it cheep. buy a small trubo run low boost… or mod and get a turbo that will work with the mods you have to reach your power goals.
Search the sponsor classifieds on honda-tech. You’ll find some good deals on packages for pistons, rings, rods, and wristpins for around $800-$900. That should be fine for internals. Then you have the option to either have the block just hones to clean up the cylinder walls and run a stock bore piston, or have it bored.
Headwork wouldn’t be a bad idea either, although probably not necessary. You could have it ported, go with a mild set of cams(again search honda-tech for some deals around $400), a set of stiffer valvesprings, and then you’ll be able to rev higher and get that thing breathing a lot better.
I don’t really know what to recommend you for a turbo. Mine’s a junkyard 14b and won’t get you the power you need. Besides that I’ve basically only payed attention to the garret GTR series. The gt28rs MIGHT get you 300whp, but you’ll most likely be maxxing the turbo and have no room for growth. Then there’s many versions of the gt30r that will get you well over 300.
xenocron made 300 whp on stock internals with an sc-61.
If i were u i would get a 57 or 60 trim
Xenocron also said that car wasn’t a daily driver and he wouldn’t recommend others to push they’re stock bottom end car that far. As far as I know, this is your primary car, so I would not go aiming for 300whp without internals.
Im deffinatle gettin internals I just wanted to know whgat turbo would bring me the closest, what size injectors to go with and if sleeving is neccisary or atleast a block guard. I headc ppl say that its pointless to get a block guard and some like em, some say sleeving isnt necissary and some say it is. I just want to know whats what. And thats about it, I will search the rst for stuff to use like the best products for my build and all, thats pretty straight forward, but this isnt, i dont wanna spend money thats not needed to be spent.
Thx for all the helpful info tho.
Josh
Sleeving and blockguard definitely won’t be necessary for your goals. Like I said before, check honda-tech for internal deals. There’s usually packages for eagle rods and je or equivalent pistons. 550cc should be fine for injectors, however, you could always go bigger incase you want to leave room for growth.
