$50 paint assistance......PLEASE (PICS)

Why is this so bubbely???/
Do i have too much mineral spirits or not enough???
please tell me fast before it dries like this…
I am using the foam 4" roller by the way…

UPDATE

This is with three coats rolled on…
Steps sp far:
primed car in flat black
rolled on 1 coat
wet sand with 400 grit
rolled on coat (with wrong roller)
wetsand with 800 grit
rolled on coat and thats it so far but today i am going to wetsand with 1000 grit and roll on another coat.
P.S. if you are going to try this then DO NOT Buy the rubbermaid foam rollers from wall-mart the cause the paint to bubble because the foam is not a high enough density ,if you try it use these rollers:

I would think you need to wetsand it when dry. To smooth it out. If those bubbles are orange peels. Not 100% sure

the car was dry when i put that coat on and then it started bubbling…
And i did wetsand the whole car with 400 grit yesterday…
but the very first coat i put on did not bubble at all like this…
WHAT IS CAUSING THE PAINT TO BUBBLE???

Is there anything near it that has silicone on it from a dash wipe, armoral or tire wet.

i sprayed my tires yesterday…
could that be it?

That would be your problem.

but it does it everywhere…
and i wiped down the whole car in stuff that preps it for paint.

Silicone gets everywhere. Did you drive after you put it on? If you did it goes everywhere. If you ever take your car to a paintshop to get it painted never put that stuff anywhere on or in your car it will contaminate the shop.

Temperature of the room has a play in it.

I think he painted it outside

I think he painted it outside

Risking painting outside. Never know what’s going to blow in.

You doing the roller job?

Theres my restoration thread, I have a write up somewhere in there. If you need help just ask, i’ll try to give you some advice.

The bubbles are usually caused by TO MUCH mineral spirits. Its better to have the paint to thin then to thick though, its harder to get out the thick paint when wetsanding. I painted my car outside too, thats not the reason for all the bubbles. It could be the wheel cleaner as well.

Make sure you wash your car and wetsand all that stuff out, also try using less mineral spirits, and make sure to wetsand all those bubbles out before doing another coat. The consistancy of the paint should be a LITTLE bit thicker than water.

mine is coming along great.
I will do my final wetsand with 1000 grit tomorrow…
but after i do that wetsand do i roll on another coat ???
Do i Polish or wax first???

$50 roller paint job theres your problem in a nutshell.

JunkMan: have you tried this or personally seen the outcome???
No comment is needed then.

um yeah I’ve seen it many times and usually ask the person when they are going to shell out the remaining $2550 to finish the job.

blah blah blah let the haters hate.

Before you polish you’ll need to wetsand with a higher grit than 1000.

Try to find 2000 if you can, then using a polishing compound then wax.

ha ok then NM but SOME of them do look really good…
just dont bash them all because i took my time and it is looking GREAT.
I’ll post pics tomorrow…

haters hate? didnt you sing the praises of the $50 roller job from the rooftops only to post a thread later about wanting to get your car professionally painted?

what do you get when you mix 30 1 pound ice cream sundaes with 30 1 pound cakes of of dog shit? 60 pounds of dog shit.

The problem with doing this method is that you have to do it yourself.

I’m a lazy fuck that doesn’t have time to work on this day in day out, I wanted to get it professionally done so I didn’t have to work on it anymore, it had nothing to do with the quality of the paint or the way it looked. I’m happy I didn’t get it done professionally because its coming out awesome.

The quality is fine, no one knows I painted my shit with a roller, so what the fuck difference does it make.

Its coming out good man, keep it up.
