90 LS turbo wont start on hot days....

alright so today it was 90 degrees here and i went out and tried to start my car at least 6 times but it just wouldnt fully crank over or make a spark like it usually does.from time to time i am driving and the CEL will pop on but once i turn off the car and start it back up it goes away. like tonigth i was trying to start it and once the CEL went away it started up just fine. my main point is why wont the car start on hot days??? dont know if it is due to the turbo or internals or what. any info will help thanks…

are you saying that when it wont start, the check engine light comes on like it is supposed to, but doesnt go off? If so, it may be your MFR (Main fuel relay). Next time it won’t start, turn everything in your car off, turn the key to the on position, and listen for a ‘click’. The CEL should come on for 2-3 seconds (while it is priming the fuel system and getting up to operating pressure), then make a single click as the light goes out. If there is no click, you need a new relay. This is a common problem in these cars, and seems to be related to hot weather in some way. There is a DIY fix for it in the teg tips section, or if you just want a good working one, I have one for you. HTH! and LMK if you want my relay.

could not have said better, my relay does that too
weird relays…

yup mine does as well, headin to the yard soon to get a few spares

i had one go out in me ef hatch last year, bent over and bought a new one from honda for $90, and it went bad in a freakin month, peckers wouldnt even replace it

junkyard relays last longer

ttt

I used to have this same problem, every couple of months the main relay would go out. After I changed my fuel pump I never had the problem again. This might be a long shot nut just thought I might give you something else to look at.

Mine went out 2-3 months ago. I didnt want to spend 90 dollars on one. I resodered a couple of pins on the relay circuit board and I haven’t had any problems. It was easy. It took longer to get the relay out than to fix it. I read it on , honda-tech, I’m not sure. :search: and you will find a thread on it. It will tell you exactly what forum. Good Luck

I have the same problem, I would say replace it before it gets as bad as mine is…sometimes I can get it to start but then it’ll stall on me. That is extremely annoying in 95 degree heat!!! But it’s fine when it’s not that hot…still worth fixing, although summer is winding down

I am having this issue currently. The hotter it gets outside the less likely my car will start up on the first attempt. Ive really started to notice it the closer summer gets.

I first got this problem a few months back when I would take my bank package for my work to the bank. I have to drive on the freeway for about 5 mins which is usually empty–making the trip faster. But upon getting back in my car it wouldnt start.
