91 front bumper intercooler clearances???

hey guys i just picked up my turbo about 3 days ago and am lookin to order my intercooler and piping soon… my question is, what would be a good size to go with for intercooler that wouldnt require hacking the crap outta my front bumper? i’ve searched and didnt find much, but what i did find was a bunch of bumpers that were hacked beyond recognition :frowning: is there a good size? or would i be better at just going with a 92-93 front end? thanks guys

Im gonna say something like a 24x6x3 should fit.Im lookin to buy one myself for my 92 but ill prob go with a 24x12x3 but I know ill have to hack stuff.

thanks man, i know im gonna have to cut a little, but i dont wanna chop half the thing off ya know? :stuck_out_tongue: any way… i think im just gonna go with the 92-93 front to make my life easier… i searched and searched and maybe found 5 90-91bumpers with front mounts without looking terrible and 3242 with 92-93’s that looked perfect

Fitting an IC behind a 90-91 bumper is not a real problem … the problem is the piping. Someting like a 24x6x2.5 will fit no problems, but the piping will go thru the bumper… 92-93 is a lot less hassle.

how about if keeping a/c? i’m running into issues with the lines from the cooler that is in front of the radiator.

thanx.

That’s another problem… You will mostly need to relocate this line to fit in the IC. I had A/C and decided to remove it since it was a lot less trouble. Even with the A/C removed, I had to use my imagination to fit all the piping with the hot side on the driver’s side.

yeah man as much as i like the 90-91 bumper…for turbo i havnt seen a clean FMIC install…so it would be easier to go with 92-93…or since u are gonna with the 92-93 bumper…try to put it in ur 90-91 bumper that u have now…and see if u can make it come out clean

About a clean as i could get it. With an HKS 24x6x2.5

Was a little crooked because the end tanks are in the middle not the bottom.

^That’s clean. AC is removed I gather?

i hope to make it extremely clean. will post pics when all finished.

DCAteg: Got pics of the piping with the bumper removed? I have 2.5in piping and it looks like there’s no way it’s gonna fit under the bumper without being seen…

Hmm i dont have any with bumper off. but here is my thread. you can see how i ran the piping. havent seen anyone else run it like i did on the compressor side.

Has to hole saw a 2.75 hole to run it.

DCAteg that’s what you call stealth, untill your blow off valve goes off.

Yea, i tried to go for the sleeper look. gonna do a full 3" back and make a “cold air” intake for my compressor, also gonna re-route my blow off dump to the bottom of the car. I dont make boost till about 3.5k anyways, if im on it, so when im driving daily no one will hear it. but my turbo whines like a freakin jet when im drivin.

heres a teaser pic. a lot of measuring was involved. if it all works out, it’ll be perfectlly centered top/bottom and l/r. 91 bumper of course!

looks good so far

well it’s finished…i like it!!!

dayum!
what size/kind of intercooler is that? Were you able to keep A/C? How did you run the I/C piping with A/C (if you kept it)?

core size is 25 x 5 1/2 x 2 3/4. sorry, no a/c. a lot more room to work w/o it.

wow that looks amazing
i think thats how im going to do mine once I go boost next summer
