so after years and years of looking for a DB2, i finally got one on may 4th 2015… has the b17, has the gsr trans, clean title, and pretty clean interior… so i got it at a steal. well now i know why, it smokes like a mofo after 4500 rpms lol…
car has some cheapo header, no ac, no ps, and i do not know how it is lowered yet, but the clean interior, power windows and sunroof and mirrors worked, and then the skunk2 manifold and jdm 1 pieces were enough to sell me on it
today on 5/5/15 i did basic stuff, valve cover gasket, o-ring, spark plugs, flushed the radiator and added coolant, also ordered some OEM plug wires from acura, should get those next week. and cut the hose it had to make it fit better till i get some better radiator hoses…
not sure on over all plans for it… but today i did order the last b17 short block assembly that acura had on the shelves, a new oem water pump, oem head gasket, and oem timing belt… gonna have the head rebuilt, but first will be tear the car down and see what all it needs
thanks, grabbed it up for $2500, and it has 215k on the odometer, but that doesn’t matter since i am installing a 0 mile short block from acura, and the head will be totally refreshed anyway lol
Are you going for 100% oem? If you’re a little flexible on that I would HIGHLY recommend that you throw some different pistons into that short block before it goes in. The absurdly low compression ratio of the b17a is really why it isn’t a better performer. If you can get the CR up to the 10.5-11.5:1 range you’ll have a much stronger engine instead of what basically equates to a b16a.
no, i am leaving the bottom end stock, as it comes with a warranty from acura since it is a brand new OEM shortblock. not going for any speed records in this car, just to make it really clean inside and out, and handle like a dream like my db1 did.
Just finished reading your old thread had a good time reading plus it now makes me want a Db if it wasnt for me going back home to see my ailing mother I would have jumped on a white db on our CL here very clean with with 59 k miles original owner for 3 grand probably will lower the price if I offered but had to hold back for the funds will go with me home to pi. Hope to see some updates in the following days or weeks?
i’ve actually been driving it every day, as long as i keep it under 4500rpms no smoke… lol… so i guess i will drive it while i can till the parts start rolling in…
i finally figured out what i am going to do with the car…
OEM “ish” powertrain, lots of rare JDM parts, lots of spoon goodies, a race worthy suspension, and my interpretation of a nice interior… and keep it OEM frost white and maybe on some nice wheels… and of course add the air conditioning back. lol
