Hey thanks, I was able to hang on to my power steering, but not the AC, the turbo doesn’t fit with the condensor. I don’t know whether a smaller turbo will fit or not, cuz mine wasn’t even close. As far as the wastegate goes, I did have to grind the head and valve cover away a wee bit, but it wasn’t too big of a deal. The oil dipstick is a bit of a pain, you can’t physically see the tube from the top, so you have to snake the dipstick (which has the handle portion bent to clear the wastegate) down through the manifold, and guide it into the tube with your other hand which is reaching underneath the exhaust manifold/turbo. Sooooo, that is ALOT of fun when the engine is hot. :umno:
VI Massive, why that specific manifold? Is your power goal above 300 hp? If not; there are several manifolds that are very strong and will retain your A/C and P/S with a full size Fluidyne /slimfans or stock radiator with stock fans. And if you get the right turbo, you won’t even have to trim the webbing on the block.
My goal is to be at least 250WHP and to retain powersteering and A/C(Hot in Florida). Shoot me some other brands and I’ll do some research on them. From what I understand, the Meutek mani has very good design characteristics. The DRAG mani looks nice…it retains P/S and A/C, but is prone to cracking and the wastegate placement is totally horrible(just one runner). I think there is another brand called Inline or something. The Meutek is cast iron so no cracking is expected and the wastegate is placed right in the middle(collector)…not to mention the price and availability. Not having to notch the webbing on the block would be nice…
what engine management is being used…or did i miss that?
VI Massive, that’s the same power goal I’m shooting for.
I have pics of a SFP manifold with and external HKS waste gate, which I’m saving just in case I feel the need for more than 250whp. The SFP mani retains the A/C and P/S and full size rad. I’m currently utilizing the a Greddy 18G kit, which I made some modifications to, making it a little more efficient. It uses an internal waste gate which some has criticized for not being very consistent but for my power goals, it’s perfect and maintenance free.My My apologies to the OP, I didn’t mean to talk through your movie.
oh, check out this guy (jdecks23) setup.
Hahaha, no big deal man. To each their own setup right? Everything on my car is working great! Both the AC and the ABS were on the fritz, neither of which gets used, so they got yanked, which gave me more room to play with. In the future if I grenade something, I’ll look into doing a full length manifold.
Maverick, you’re a good sport!
Here in Florida like VI Massive states, A/C is a must if you drive your car everyday during the day. The nights are not so bad, but I don’t only use my cars in the night. I actually had no P/S or A/C for a few months when I was “all motor” and know that I can’t live without either.
Now I wouldn’t mind removing the ABS system though. I just don’t like the way the peddle feels when it’s active. Did you do your non-ABS conversion yourself? Man, I’m willing to pay someone to do it for me. Currently I don’t have the engine in the bay so it shouldn’t be hard.
Your car sounds like it one fun having machine, nuff props to you!
So how hot does Florida get during the day on average? Where I live, in Winnipeg, it’s known for its summer and winter extremes, from up to 100F degrees in the summer and goes below -40F during the winter…no big deal. I’ve got no problem cruising in the GSR whilst bathing in my own sweat, just gotta put the windows down and crank it out to 9000 rpm!!! (And then go home to a cold beer…or 6)
It’ll get close to 100 here in the day. Some claim it to be humid, but coming from NYC, I shrug it off. I live 15 mins away from the beach so the nights are lovely compared to NYC. We don’t have a lot of concrete building storing heat as in NYC. Winter? well, it’ll get in the 40’s sometimes and boy will you hear complaints. Only the newly migrated northerners claim it to be “nice weather”.
I have vote to “nay” on that “bathing in my own sweat” preference, working on my car; yes, driving my car; fresh! But I have to vote “yea” on “crank it out to 9000 rpm!!!”. I understand this feeling very well and will admit, would make you forget about what you’re wearing and how you smell, much less on boost!
So with that mani can I keep a a/c, p/s and a full size rad with a smaller turbo? I was looking to buy that meutek manifold.
Power steering you should be able to keep for sure, with a smaller turbo you could most likely keep using the full rad, but just where the turbo ends up sitting, AC doesn’t look possible no matter what size turbo you use.
aznkr4zyboi, are you speaking to me?
If so…
Both manifold that I mentioned, will allow you to retain the A/C and P/S.
You may use your stock rad, instead of the 1/2 rad that most use. You can even retain your stock fans in some applications.
What’s important is your power goal/power band, which is hard to decide. Unless you drive a similar weighted car with similar gearing with a known whp output, it’s hard to know what will be sufficient for you.
I’ve personally driven several cars ranging for a 2000 civic SI w/ a Greddy 18G kit that makes 240whp on 12psi. A/C , P/S , and full interior, to a gutted EH with a 300+ hp to the wheels. I then made my decision to replicate the 2000 Civic setup.
12 psi by 4000 rpms, revving all the way to 8200 and never falling bellow 5500 rpms between shifts. Pretty much feels like an All Motor monster.
Hey also a fellow winnipegger! Your name isn’t mark by any chance is it? If so, I used to work with Evan, and have the red boosted LS teg. We should meet up sometime. I want to see this thing in person! Happy boostin’
Yep, that’s me! How’s this weekend sound for some DA cruisin’?
The beauty of the internet!
actually this weekend might not be good b/c i work and have 2 exams next week. maybe if i can get off work earlier.
Ah yes, another casualty of university. What internal setup are you running on your LS again? What kind of boost are you putting out and do you have numbers/dyno sheet?
im running arias pistons and eagle rods
10psi on a t3 (although im tuned to 14psi just dont have a boost controller)
danny tells me I put down 248hp and 230tq using cromepro
will be going back in spring with a bigger turbo and hoping to break 300hp
who did your tuning and what ems you using?
i wish i had gone with a bigger turbo to start off with but reliability was in my mind. Now that i’ve got a taste for boost, I WANT MORE!!!
That’s gonna be fun stuff once you get the bigger turbo on and dial it up. I had my car tuned at Wall’s (Motion sucks) using Cromepro as well, with an SST chip. Gonna be back there in spring with the updated setup.
possibly make a video of your car? that would be great!
