That sucks! A good company should send you out a new one IMMEDIATELY.
Agreed! Unfortunately I bought this off of a distributor on Amazon so I have to go through them first. In the mean time, I did contact Canton about this issue and they were glad to help me figure this out. They have great customer service, I called them during the installation since I was having trouble getting the pan to settle down on the block. They suggested a few things and also had me send them a picture of what I was working with. I told them I was gonna try a few things the next day and I eventually got it installed… The best part about it was that they contacted me to make sure if I ended up getting the pan to settle. So, I have faith that they will make this right.
Coming along well! Sucks you’re having issues with the oil pan but it’s always a relief dealing with a company that wants to make things right for the customer. Keep it up!
Oh man, that is unfortunate. It sounds like they’ll be good to you, but I don’t know if it’s worth sending it back (If they don’t pay for shipping). Might be cheaper to just have it welded up.
Thanks! I have a little update on the oil pan situation and it’s a bit frustrating. So it’s been about a week since I sent the pan and to my understanding, Canton Racing told me that my pan would be covered under warranty and once my defective pan showed up there they would send me one asap. Well, the pan arrived and unfortunately they didn’t call me when it got there so I called them to see when I will get my new pan. To my surprise, they said that they are sending my pan off to be replated on Monday and it should be a week from then untill it would be ready to be sent out. So now I’m looking at another week to round off a total delay of about 2 and 1/2 maybe even 3 weeks to get the car started. Fustrated, I told Canton that I’m not only out money in oil and shipping but now Ive paid for a brand new pan to be sent back to me “fixed like new”
So my faith has gone out the window with these guys as they told me they would get back to me on Monday and see what they can do. If I didn’t see this pan work as well as it does I would be asking for my money back immediately. Hopefully they come to their senses and send me a pan asap.
they should send you a new pan not fix the old 1.
^^Agreed. Sorry to hear that man, it’s a shame when you spend good money and they give you the run around like that :squint:
A very late update here. Sorry to everyone who has been following this, I’ve been quite busy with school and work. However, with the semester coming to a close, I finally have time to update this thing!
So my battle with Canton Racing finally ended and they sent me a brand new pan. 2+ weeks later… After the week in shipping from my place… I understand it may have been a process on their side to handle my situation but I do think the process was a little long and very frustrating. Every time I gave them a call to check on the status of my pan, they would tell me their going to call me back the next day. I would wait all day for a call and it wouldn’t happen, so I would call them 10 or 20 minutes before they closed and it would be a very rushed interaction over the phone. BUT they did end up listening to my request for a new pan instead of my old one being fixed. After this long wait for a new pan, I finally got it installed. Believe it or not, this one actually holds oil!!
In the spare time I had I mocked up he dashboard. I still have to make plastic plates to cover up the holes for the vents and glove box, but this will do for now. Im contemplating flocking the dash because I love that look, but my main focus is getting the car started and on the way to the way to the alignment shop. However I’m very happy with the way it looks. Its not gonna be a show car!
Excuse the mess of wires under the dash LOL
I also got my Hardrace upper control arms installed along with new wheel bearings, Moog balljoints and my hubs pressed into the knuckle. Im going to take my front LCAs to a press shop, pick up some axles, hopefully install my ES bushing on the LCA, and then re install the front suspension on Wednesday. After that its time to fill the transmission with some fluid, extend the map sensor to the throttle body, loop the coolant lines and try to start it!
Here are pics of the upper control arms and the knuckles. This is all I have for now, I will update after Wednesday.
Great progress man looks good, I have that subframe it’s a great one, also that oil pan is nice! Great call on the cable Trans call, I just had a j1 b16 Trans rebuilt and found out after running my Gsr with ITR 4.7 final n Lsd that the case is leaking, and I never really liked the feel of that hassport conversion so good call cause now I have to switch back only due to a leaky case but still keeping my conversion set up still,
Good progress and good instincts to switch shells I wish I would of now I’ll be redoing all my work good thing is it’ll be easier than 26 year old bolts,
Can’t wait too see ya all finished greatest feeling is driving it lol or walking back to it at a store in a parking lot lol that don’t get old

Thank you! I was told by many people that the cable transmission would be best for my application. I do love the feeling of a hydraulic transmission though. Maybe look into the hush conversion if you’re planning on ditching the hasport conversion but still wanting to keep the hydro trans.
hush performance is good.
very nice progress sir, and congratz on the new oil pan.
Ive finally got her to start! It seriously took way too long, but that was only due to the fact that I damaged a front lower control arm while trying to cut the bushing race out of it. It took nearly a month for me to source a new LCA locally! The reason Ive been waiting for an LCA is because I didn’t want to start the engine with the transmission completely dry, and to prevent any trans fluid from leaking out I needed the axles installed, which then meant that I needed front LCAs, and by the time i rounded all the parts together it was time to assemble the entire front suspension! So with that said, I’m sure that we can understand why it took so long…
I couldn’t get a video on here because photo bucket sucks but there is the image of it idling somewhat normally… When I first started it, major vacuum leak and the rpms shot up to 4000. The source of the leak was in the throttle body, and after dealing with that the idle went down to 2000 and it would stay there even when it warmed up. So then I adjusted the throttle stop on the S2 Throttle body and it finally calmed down. Once I fully burp the coolant system and get the distributer timing correct she should be buttery smooth. Right now it will fluctuate between 800 and 1200 but it docent surge like a bad IACV. Overall I’m extremely satisfied with the way its running! its been way too long since the last time I’ve been in a RUNNING DA.
All of the front suspension is installed now. The suspension has ES bushings for the front LCAs as well as ES end links and sway bar bushings, Hard Race upper control arms, Koni Yellow/Ground Control (550f), Moog inner and outer tie rods, EF manual steering rack, brand new OEM wheel bearings, ARP wheel studs, and finally some auto zone axles (for now)
As far as the brakes go its a pretty basic setup. Im running the Centric blank rotors wth Hawk HP + pads as well as some new re manned calipers and stainless steel brake lines.
Here all all the pics of the work! Going to move on to getting the rear suspension re finished/ installed, and an AutoPower bolt in roll bar and then I’m off to the alignment shop! I will most likely get around to working on it after the Pikes Peak International Hill climb as that weekend is going to take up my spare time away from work! Enjoy the pics everyone!!
Grinding and respraying the LCAs with some chassis paint
Fresh out da machine shop!!
ES bushings pressed in!
Slowly stating to look like a car again…
Full Race Traction bar fully installed
End links and Swaybar
Suspension/Messy Garage lol
Stay tuned everyone!!!
Nice work on the car !!! Lol you did basically everything I’m doing right now … Funny!
Keep up the good work ! There is not a lot of us left who still love DA’s. Check out my build thread ! We twins almost !
I’m enjoying this. Your work and parts collection is amazing!
What type of paint did you use? also, what was used for the undercarriage?

Thank you!!
For the suspension pieces, I used VHT Chassis Paint. For the undercarriage, I used 3M Rubberized Undercoat.
However I’m a bit jealous of how glossy StrictlyDA’s undercarriage came out so I definitely recommend checking out his build thread just to see the different ways the undercarriage can be re sprayed.
Thanks for suggesting! Yours and StrictlyDA’s build has me wanting to redo my undercarriage.
VHT roll bar and chassis paint correct? Judging by the picture, is it a semigloss paint?
Car is looking great!!! awesome work. Im right behind you on my build! great stuff! looking at your build again makes wanna drop my engine in already lol… damm cant wait lol.

Yes that’s the exact paint I used and I believe it is a semigloss, it’s pretty shiny. It was a pain to do the undercarriage while the car is on jackstands, but it’s worth it to know that everything is nice and clean down there. Good luck with the project!!
I have to say, finally getting the engine in was an awesome feeling. Thanks!!
Resurrecting your thread…
just curious where you are at, think you can make it to the NASA event at HPR next weekend? I’ll pair you with a good instructor. We need more Hondas at these events, too many BMW’s .
