An oil thread

This thread is devoted to differient types and brands of engine oil. I want to know what you people are running, and how long you have ran it.

I recently switched to regular Pennzoil 5w30 from the Mobil regular I used to use. I was drawn in by the supposed active cleansing agents in the oil, with the promise of up to 15% of sludge removal in the first oil change. I was skeptical at first, but now 3 oil changes later my oil at 3000 miles is half as dark as it used to be at the 3000 mile mark. Also it does seem like there is some more power available too at the gas.

My engine has 220,000 miles on it and runs strong. I want to see it hit the 300,000 or 400,000 mile mark before it gets replaced.

Anyone use Royal Purple, or any of the exotics like Lamborghini and Ferrari oil?
Let me know whats up.

i just use the cheap stuff, but keep it clean. change every 3-3500k.

I use Mobil1 full synthetic and have been every oil change for almost 5yrs. as for the royal purple opinion I have no experience but one of my mentors said he used it and he hated it… i was also looking at some comparison charts he showed me royal purple ranked pretty low

i use either Castrol GTX or Valvoline 5w-30, whatever seems to be cheapest, every 5k miles. 192,200mi here.

Kind of ironic I just jumped on here to do some searching to see who uses what for oil need to do an oil change and came across this thread

prob gonna go to the pennzoil myself but 10w30 cause that’s what I’ve always used need to do oil pan and vc gaskets soon thi starting to show signs of leakage

go whit mobil 1 fully syntetic walmart has 5 quart jug for 23 bucks

The color of the oil or “darkness” has nothing to do with the oil’s life.

on my b18a i used royal purple for about 2 years, i bought the car with 160k and the engine spun a bearing at 224k. i would have probably gotten more life out of the engine if i did routine oil changes, but i changed the oil every 10-15k miles. ive heard good and bad about royal purple, ive been using it for a couple of years with no problems, but now i switched to mobil1 full synthetic.

I’ll usually go with Autozone’s oil change specials… sometimes I get the combo deal, only cause I could use the extra work towels.

but right now running on 10w-30 Pennzoil with fram extra guard oil filter

I have used Castrol GTX every oil change since I had my first car, so just over 10 years now. It’s always kept my engines clean and sludge free, no matter how hard I (or previous owners) treated the vehicle. Always changed at/around 5000KM and always a new filter even though I have heard some people say the filter can stay for multiple oil changes.

Royal Purple, Idemitsu Synthetic, and Mobil 1 are oils I used.

i fully rebuild my motor and I’m using 10w-30 Pennzoil, with fram extra guard oil filter.

Lamborghini uses Valvoline and Ferrari uses Quaker state. Nothing too exotic there, just your standard $8-$10 per quart full synthetic.

Castrol GTX is good stuff. I usually buy it for most cars when I or the owner doesn’t really care what they get as long as its not the pricey stuff. Like my grandmother’s crap Buick for example. I have a Dodge Ram v8 with about 208k on it and have used nothing but Castrol GTX along with Lucas oil stabilizer for the 175,000 miles I’ve had it and it runs great.

Personally I use Mobil One full synthetic in the Interga and my 01 Civic. The Civic is a work car and just surpassed 200k miles and I’ve had it since new. I change it every 7,000 miles or so and it still comes out decently clean. I run the high mileage formula now. The Interga gets a 2 changes a year with the everyday Mobile One Syn and I only put a couple thousand miles on it annually.

I tried Royal Purple once on the Integra and it was ok. I have no complaints aside from the price. My friend with a nicely tuned WRX (500ish HP) uses R.P. exclusively and loves the stuff. Their new line of filters are super good quality and I use either them or K&N now depending on witch is cheaper.

As for Penzoil. I got the worst sludge ever using that stuff. My mom had a 97 Lunima and my dad was hooked on the yellow bottle. The motor popped at 130K and had an amazing amount of sludge in the oil pan area. The likely cause is GM and their crappy engineering but I’m not 100% on that. After that experience I stay away from Chevy and Penzoil just to be safe. The kicker about that experience is I begged my parents to get an Accord, if they had it would likely still be around.

German Castrol

Where did you get the german castrol from?

castrol high mileage 5w30 cause “burn of protection” (prob just bs but what ev)
any oil burning fix? (rings)

My local Auto Zone has it…I use to run Mobil 1 in the R motor but it would burn a lot. So I gave the German Castrol a try and it is a lot better, hardly burns any.

castrol german? is it castrol syntec?
link? please

whatever dino-oil is on sale. Peak makes a 10w30 thats around $2.30 / quart

I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 10w30, and K&N oil filter.
