Ok so i have a fully assembled megasquirt 2.2 fuel controler from my turbo saturn project and im wondering if anyone has every used megasquirt on a honda motor.
i heard that it is impossible to tune.
^^^
where did you hear that from?
J-K-tuning. he tuned my car, we werre gonna use it on a cavalier but it would take forever to do. No personal experience, but it is supossedly not that easy of a program. THis is coming from a guy that does 3 tunes a day.
I haven’t done a lot up to now (gathering my turbo setup piece by piece), but I’ve read a lot on many websites. Megasquirt can be used to tune almost anything (as a fuel injected 2 stroke turbo yamaha banshee!! yes one guy is trying), but it is more a DIYourselfer experimental type tuning instrument (although forums seems to be very supportive). Possibilities are almost endless with Megasquirt but from what I’ve seen and heard, it is a bit more complex to setup because it is not use specific, it’s universal.
Ignition is not straight forward to tune on hondas because of the honda hardware (cranksensors, tach, …) I know that if you go on msefi.com forum, you’ll find one guy was able to tune is honda fuel injection with it, kind of exotic ITB…
Probably that a guy that must tune 3 car per day doesn’t have any time to fXXk around with an exotic setup and goes with what is known to work well and reliably. Honda ECU chipping is well spread and supported and, in fact, is transforming your honda ECU in a somewhat “tunable engine management processor”.
Uberdata , Turboedit, Crome and others are successful on honda specific setups.
I’m in the process of turboing B18, it is my fisrt time, to keep it easier, I’ll go with chipped PR4 and probably Crome, but the megasquirt solution is one I don’t put aside for my future setups. Another generation of megasquirt is also upcoming, maybe that one could be more honda friendly.
I ain’t no pro on that topic, but I’ve read a while on megasquirt, and since your in the same wondering situation as I am, I give you my 2 cents. Hope it helps make up your mind.
I thought I read that a bunch of DSMers like to use it.
on the BMW E30 forums its very popular and apparently quite effective & inexpensive
research on those saturn boards my friend
