I made an impulse buy about 10 minutes ago on ebay. I purchased an 88 Corolla shift boot and console. I really like the way the old Corolla shift boots were, and I was just wondering if anyone has done this yet. I searched, and came up with an old post about an 86 boot, but I purchased an 88 boot. Just wanting to see if anyone has done this before and how it came out.
can you show the link of the ebay boot kit? I want to see how it look as well
looks like it would fit and if it doesnt if the outter area is too much u can probably trim it down. Not sure how it would look until its on. I’m gonna look into other type of cars boot as well thanks for the idea

Yea that’s the one, mine looks like it’ll actually match up with the factory interior on my DA. Let me get you the exact auction.
I want to see pics when you get it in.
You got it.
I thought about doing this when I used to have my da. I think it will look really good.
God I HATE thoes ugly ass boots.
Anyway, the stock shift boot uses a bracket with notches on the sides of it, that the leather will go around (slits in the leather), and it holds it on. Then it screws into the bottom of the center console. You can pretty much use any leather type boot as long as you reuse the stock bracket, however since the Corolla boot is made of something different I don’t know if that would work, honestly…unless you drilled it into the console or something. If you figure it out and/or get it in let us know…I’d never do it but if it can be done I want to see
(I’m using the OEM JDM red stitch DC boot, and I used it in a CRX too…just gotta reuse stock bracket)

Yea my boy said the same thing. He hates that boot, but for some reason I dig it. Once I get that in the mail i’ll try messing with it to see how i’ll be able to fit it. I think it’ll look real good. The thing I hate about the leather boots is they get all types of shit inside them, plus the’re leather so if not maintained they’ll crack. Add to that I live in florida, and it’s going to be summer here in a few weeks so I think this will be a great upgrade for me. Plus if it works out I can at least be a guinea pig and contribute to g2ic in case anyone would like to do this mod in the future.
Yeah I at least would like to see how it turns out
I received the shift boot yesterday, but I’ve got a cold and I’m feeling like shit. Once I get better and I get some free time I’ll start on this project. Also, has anyone dealt with Monsterknobs.com? Their shift knobs are the exact thing i’m looking for, just wanted some alternate feedback.
Bump 'cause I loved my old corolla, and want to see thing done!
those boots are hideous they look cheap and theres a reason they dont make them like that anymore…UGLY
It’s been a month man … did you end up fitting this? I’d be interested to see how it looks in the DA…
i see those boots all the time at the junkyards over here in socal. i wanna see pics too.
Sorry bout that guys, seemed like people were losing interest so I put it on the back burner. I did a basic test fit (basically just sitting it on top of the existing shift boot) and it fits REALLY well. I mean some minor cutting and fabrication and it’ll be good. IIRC, the width and length were big enough to overcompensate the original boot opening so it’s a task of cutting down to fit rather then adding on to fit. It’s been raining like crazy plus work so I haven’t had the time. I’m still doing it though! Also g2 owners know what rain equals… That’s another project i’ll have to tackle and I just tookt he seats out and cleaned down the whole damn carpet… If anyone can point me to a GOOD DETAILED writeup on the common leaks for the rear hatch i’d appreciate it.
i just noticed this thread. my brother’s got a corolla, so i asked him if i could use his boot. i had a spare center console laying around, so i tried it. the console will definetley need to be cut to fit the boot. check out the pics.
Eh…leather looks so much classier
:werd: i still like the boot, just not on a DA. stick with the leather, imo.
